    57 RK's

    Hi Guys

Nice little 57 section you have here. Very interesting. Not being a 57 collector I enjoyed reading some threads on the 57 Iron Crosses. Prompted me to dig out my RK from a misc. box. Had this for many years but all I know is it's a type one and I believe a S&L. It is unmarked but has a magnetic core. What I was wondering is what core it has. Like B, C or D? Hope you can get an idea from my fuzzy pics. Appreciate any thoughts. And thanks.

    Nice

    Nice early S&L 1957 KC

First core type and C-Frame. The earliest type had a B-Frame

This one I believe is probably early 1960s

Thanks for the compliments guys. On a side note. Is there a way to distinguish the "C" frame from the B and D? Some feature the others don't have maybe? Confuses me.

              Eye

Its easy. The eye of the cross are different on the B-Frame. The B-Frame have some flaws that can ID the frame.

                Hi,

I would check this out for the B frame:

                http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...55#post5335955

The C frame is "basically" a cleaned up B frame with some having the 3 dot "bleedover" flaw on the lower 9 o'clock arm.

                Another:

                http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...=833381&page=2

The D frame is modern production and often has a frame with a sand blasted look as well as paint on the frame from the core being painted after assembly. The D frames being produced in 2016, actually look better than those made a decade or two ago.

                Best,

                Jeff

                  C & D frame also has the dipping eye, unlike a B frame ! 😉

All the S&L frames A, B, C, & D came from the same original mother die, from which, various working dies have been made, probably several for each type!!
Over the years various flaws came and went, and the dies were no doubt tidied up a good few times.
On the earlier frames, the amount of hand finishing can result in some variation of the loop eye, but the "dipping eye" as well as the aforementioned flaws, is the best way of telling them apart!!
