Hello Guy's, Well I spent today at the SOS. It is such a HUGE show I'm sure I missed many 57 items, but what I did find was SO OVER PRICED even I was shocked ! Rather than try to give you a list, I will mention just one example. An early S&L RK cased and mint condition.......$1,300.00 Firm. And so went the prices on all the other 57 items I ran across. Tom

Hi Tom,
Thanks for the SOS update, sure wish I could be there!
I think the market forces of supply vs. demand are beginning to push 57er prices skyward, along with certain sellers (could be dealers or collectors) looking to cash in. In the end, buyers will determine what price the market will bear.
Best,
Jeff

Hi Tom!!
Thanks for the heads up from the SOS!
Sad to hear, but I guess, not wholly unexpected, as Andrew said in a recent post, most 57ers are much rarer than their TR cousins, and while they may never be quite as desirable, the scarcity of many of the pieces, will no doubt only result in the prices continuing to increase.....unfortunately!!!

Gents,
I feel that there are completely different views regarding the pricing of 57ers. I really don't want to start a serious debate but I think it would not be a bad idea to create a kind of catalogue for the "accepted" prices.
One example: I sell a cased RK with Oak Leaves, TYPE 1, it was being discussed here. I listed it on eBay for £799 with Best Offer.
I have received offers here as well, the highest was £600. I have decided to wait, I am still hoping that somebody will offer a bit more for the set.
I have no idea that the £600 counts as "overpriced" but two members here offered me the same.
This is just one example but I think it would help even to a novice collector to decide how much worth to pay for a particular award.

I'm not too keen on a kind of league table for prices to be honest!
In an auction style sale.......
Each piece's value will vary with the differing opinions of each collector, if a particular piece or variant comes up that I am missing in my collection, I would be prepared to pay well above any average value, and I am sure that is true of most of you here!!
If you really want something, and have the cash, any sensible valuation goes out of the window!!
And on a dealers site, or set price sale.......
You will never stop a seller asking whatever he thinks is attainable for a piece, it is then up to each of us to decide if we will pay that price, or wait in the hope of another, cheaper example coming onto the market!!!

As far as pricing of items goes collectors have be sitting around whining for years about how prices are too high.
Then 2 years down the road they wished they had bought whatever they were whining about at the time.
It's a(in most cases) a no win situation.
You pays me now or you pays me later for a whole lot more than in the first place.
Just my 2 cents.
