Assmann EK2 Spange

From the same source as my Assmann EK1, and one of several pieces supposedly bought from Assmann, is this EK2 Spange, unlike any I have seen before!!!
It is from the same die as an S&L example, but is hollow backed, not solid, and has a very different finish!
When you see the black paint, and the particular silver finish,it does shout...."Assmann"

I don't want to damage the pins by trying to remove the Spange from the ribbon.... I can't see an MM, but it could be marked, but you can, hopefully see the hollow back.....

How interesting, a hollow spange! The EK beading looks very worn as well. That would mean Assmann bought a worn die from St&L and kept on using it, plus made an entirely new die for the reverse?

Interesting Spange. I have a hollow version of the ek1 spange.
I am not sure if its Assmann (ok I don´t think it is Assmann.The quality looks too bad ). Sadly the condition is not very good.

Interesting Spange!!!
The fact that it is a hollow back, and appears to have an open hingeblock and thick flatwire catch, means there is at least a chance of yours also being an Assmann!
If they made an EK2 Spange, surely they made a 1st class too, and possibly Imperial cored EK's to go with them??
If yours is an Assmann, I think its likely that they also used an S&L die to make it??
There are several flaws that are found on an S&L EK2 Spange, that are also found on the Assmann, here is one........

Not sure without checking, if S&L used the same die for both classes???

Just checked.....it is the same die, even the earliest 1st class I have has a very small flaw in the same place, it must have got bigger over time, so, as it seems the die Assmann used was an older , worn one, I would think all the Assmann made Spangen should have that flaw!!
