    Hi Guys!!
Here's an Assmann EK1 that has just arrived!!!
These are pretty rare pieces, this is my second, and I have seen only, maybe 5 or 6??

Though the core and frame both appear to come from the same master die as S&L's, one glance at the finish on these Assmann's will reveal a very different "look" when compared to S&L.............

The silver finish on the frame and beading is different to S&L's and the core paint has a much more textured finish to it, when compared with the much smoother S&L paint!
A couple of the numbers on the date have been touched up at some point.....

Closer look at the numerals, the core itself is non-magnetic!!

          Onto the reverse............
Typical hardware, the same as used by S&L around 1970 including thick catch and open hingeblock......

Hi Nigel, Question: Are all the Assmann EK1's you've seen non-magnetic ? Tom

Finish with a couple of closeups.....
                Open Hingeblock......
                ass4.jpg
Thick flatwire catch and Assmann MM.....
Interesting to see that the solder from the catch actually covers a small part of the MM, meaning that Assmann must have stamped their MM onto the backplate before the catch was attached, which rules out the possibility that Assmann simply bought finished crosses from S&L and marked them up as Assmann's for resale, IMO, Assmann bought old dies from S&L and produced these crosses themselves!!

The more mysterious the more I like them, great piece Nigel! Assmann sure had an unusual way of frosting their 57 awards compared to St&L/Deumer, no polishing in any way.

                      Regards,
                      Nick

                        Thanks Guys!!
@ Alf.....I will start a separate thread eventually on Assmann's production, and we can discuss the EK's and others there, rather than include it in this thread!
