interesting kuban shield

I want to present a new and interesting kuban shield in my collection.

From all what we know today, it is an early example.

High quality stamping and soldered before gilding .

The special feature is the double stamping, a production error that makes it unique.

I wonder... how it was done ?? First stamping looks different at all from the second one... different dies ?!

From my perspective the second stamping is identical (same die), but a little bit offset .

Well, that's an interesting piece for sure!!
It looks like the first strike was off centre, and not full on, its surprising that the piece wasn't binned there and then?
Anyway, a second correct strike was made, resulting in what we see now, again, somewhat surprising that the shield made it to the next stage of production, but it did, as the prongs were soldered on!!
I doubt that S&L's quality control. especially in the earlier days, would have allowed this piece to go on sale??
Maybe it was sold as a second or the worker simply took it home??
I guess we will never know for sure!!!

perhaps, you are right, but we must also consider, that we view a detailed picture. In a distance from about 50 cm you see nothing from double stamping .

Yes, after I wrote that, I realised that there was also every chance that it was still went for sale, and was bought, maybe it wasn't noticed by the buyer, or not considered important!!
