A lot of ordinary Joe Smo German soldiers died because of his efforts to derail German operations. That makes him a traitor to the German side. He also sacrificed Rommel to save himself. That makes him a coward.

But, that doesn't mean he is not an important part of WW2 history and an interesting fellow. Hecht, I even wrote him and received an autographed photo years ago before he had a stroke and
    could not sign anymore.

BTW, I don't appreciate the KKK comment from the jerk who posted that.

When you corresponded with Speidal did you tell him what you thought of him or did you just take his autograph, if not, then it appears I am not the only "jerk" here on this thread......by the way, "jerk" equates to "tosser" here in the U.K.

I meant to answer your comment earlier, but I attended a nice military show over the weekend and just got home. So I had some time to think about you and your "rush to judgment" comments.

I have a serious question for you - do you ever think before you make these comments and accusations? For your information, I wrote Hans Speidel years ago when I first started collecting KC winner signed photos. I knew very little about him, except he was with Rommel in the Normandy campaign. It was only years later when I visited Heinz von Brese that I heard about "der Fall Speidel" from him. The OdR even had an inquiry into his actions during the war, especially how he misdirected operations to the detriment of the Germans and sacrificed Rommel to save his own skin. I can assure you that many of the former German soldiers who knew about this had very little regard nor wanted anything to do with Speidel.

But Speidel aside, your flippant comments about me are very disturbing. The KKK is a bigoted racist white-supremacy organization. What does that possible have to do with Hans Speidel's actions during the war? You know nothing about me, what I have done during my life, what I know, what kind of person I am, etc., yet you insinuate I am a paid up member to the KKK because I dare to make a negative comment about Hans Speidel, who also is in not in any way related to the KKK, by the way?

To call you a jerk is actually being very kind compared to what you really are. But I am a very forgiving person. So if you post an apology, I will be glad to forget the whole matter and never mention it again. Otherwise, you are and will remain for me (and any fair minded person that reads these exchanges between us) a complete and total jerk.
