Post war replacement Imperial Pilots badge..................

Gentleman, my newest addition to my Imperial replacement badge/medal collection. .....an Imperial German Army Air service "Flugzeugfuhrerabzeichen" (Pilots badge) badge by St u L.......First authorised for use 27th January 1913, issued badges were thinly stamped, silvered or silver washed, at some time during the Great War only certificates were awarded, the crews having to purchase their own badges ! This may explain the scarcity of the stamped issue badges compared to the private purchase two piece variety.
This badge exhibits great detail in its crisp die stamping (see images) and features St u L's late open hinge block and tapered pin with large "C" catch indicating production after 1968, although I suspect this one to be later and more for the collectors market !
It is known that St u L made these badge pre WW2 in the thirties and probably during the war......as did a number of other medal makers including Assmann (who as well as St u L continued after WW2 to produce a range of both Imperial and 1957 awards/medals) each added their own distinctive features, that we can use today in order to identify the maker. I show images of both St u L and Assmann's "Imperial crowns" St u L opting to use a "pillowed" effect for the inner crown area, Assmann a "beaded" net effect....
Thanks to member "Borzadow" for the heads up on this badge...Thanks Patryk !
    Prost ! Steve.

        Hi Steve!
A nice new badge for your collection!!
Looking at the hardware, I would think it is from the 70's onwards..... which is probably what you thought also?
I have seen a couple, but they don't seem to turn up too often, so I think you did well to snap this one up!
Excellent photo's, compare, description and history of the original badge!!
        Thanks Steve......
