    DKiG's Deumer vs Deschler

    Hi Guys!!
I am just doing a little research into 57er DK's, in particular, the two types that often cause disagreement!
The two types I am referring to are....................
    1. The type Rudiger showed us yesterday, and both Rudiger and myself believe is a Deumer.......
    ruddeum1.jpg

    2. The type with flatwire catch and poorer quality of finish, thought by Rudiger and myself to be Deschler.......
two examples shown here, with different rivets!!

    photo's courtesy of Luud!

I hope that everyone will give their thoughts, opinions, and any useful photo's to this thread, and eventually we may be able to say for sure!!!

Firstly, I have to ask, who first attributed the better quality DK, as shown by Rudiger, to Deschler??
I have heard it was so attributed in Dietrich's DK book, but don't own it so cannot say for sure!!!

    Hi Nigel,

that will be a great thread

We often talked about but never really started one about this question.

It was indeed Dietrich who attributed that one to Deschler, and to be honest, it´s my example in the book. But i sent him the pics, not the piece.

When we have a look at the overall quality and see how often/less these pop up .... my vote goes to Deumer. I am sure that Deumer made everything that was 57er realted but only less pieces of each.

Let´s see what the others have to say

      Thanks for confirming that Rudiger!!
Looking first at the poorer quality piece........
There are a couple of things I would like to compare this one with, firstly with wartime made Deschler's.........
Heres the 57 poorer quality DKiG, this is the variant with domed rivets.....
      luuddesch2.jpg

And here's a wartime Deschler, again with the same rivets......
      attachmentTW4YPD2Z.jpg

A different pin, the catch looks the same, a crudely snipped square/ flat wire type, and the actual cut-outs on the backplate look very similar, if not identical, maybe we would need both types in hand to be sure????

Luckily, we also have some pinback 57er Deschlers (EK1 & KVK1) which we can also compare with the poorer quality DKiG!
Here is the catch on the DKiG............
        luudsdecsh1.jpg

And, the catch on a Deschler EK1.........
        matdeschek2.jpg

The same square flatwire type, quite crudely snipped off, and soldered directly to the backplate!

Some of these poorer quality DK's can be found with a large, round headed hingepin, the same hingepin is also found on Deschler EK1's....
The round headed hingepin can be seen on one of Luud's here (I unfortunately haven't found a closeup yet, but will add it if I do!)

And, the round headed hingepin on a Deschler EK1......

Lastly, for now, the finish on these pieces is worth looking at!!!
They seem to have a different finish to any of the Deumer or S&L pieces we see, but look to me, very much like the finish on Deschler pieces????
            DKiG'.......

            Deschler EK1 & KVK1.........
            attachmentM7WQFPD2.jpg

It is also worth mentioning, that the quality of these DK's is not the best, not as good as early S&L's, and not, IMO, what we would expect from Deumer???
But...just maybe on par with Deschler's other 57 pieces?????
            Any thoughts guys???

The EK1 shown here by Mathijs seems to have the same kind of scratch markings on the reverse when compared to these weird DKs.....

Isn't Deumer the only company that used solid brass rivets?

              Regards,
              Nick

                  Hi Guys.
I greet you after holiday trips.
                  Interesting topic.
Nigel. It is good that you moved it!
I have a similar DKiGas the first example. (From Rudiger), but has another hinge.
Now is the opportunity to compare this other features.
I'll be interested to follow the fate of this thread.

                  Best regards.

                        Thanks Maciej!!
The more pieces we have to compare, the more we learn!!!
Enjoyed seeing your holiday photo's too!!!
