    Spot the oddity ....

    Hi chaps,

I shall elaborate on this particular group at later stage, but here is a snapshot in the meantime.
Wonder whom can spot the oddball ( read unique piece ) in this group .... .

    Grtz,
    Mathijs

You finally got one of those weird RKs with the Deschler style oakleaves in the center. This will be interesting....

Frame and obverse date look Souval to me, so does the DKIG.

    Regards,
    Nick

Bingo . But there is a twist to the KC ... you'll see . I got more ( or less, depends how you see it ) then I bargained for.

          Hi Mathijs,

OMG ! A '57er Souval RK core .... the dipping 3 in combination with the non swastika core...very impressive. I never thought such a thing even existed.
Beautiful Souval DKiG too. It's not a pin claw rivited DKiG by any chance, correct ?
          Fantastic grouping.

          Best regards,
          Alex

Is that from the Regimentals website by any chance?

Wow, that's the first 57er Souval DK I've seen, and the RK is amazing. I was about to say that there was no CCC in bronze, but that was not it. Great group here. A pity the Ost medal is not present. Lots of close up pictures please.

Sure looks like it to me. I remember one on their site a couple months ago.

Actually Tom, it was listed about 2 years ago. The photos were not the best and the fact that they were taken through glass didn't help. What put me off most of all though was that I couldn't I.D. that RK. Shows how much I know.

I remember the grouping, and did save some of the photo's I think?
What I recall from a couple of years back, is that i thought at the time, that the "grouping" didn't really make sense. and looked more like a group of various pieces that had been framed, rather than a vets group?? That coupled with Regimentals poor record of selling fakes etc. put me off ever buying it, but the pieces themselves did look interesting!!!
It would be great if we can say for sure that Souval did make a 57 cored RK, and that this is one, I hope so, I always felt they probably did, as they made the DK, and the EK2, but even the EK1 has yet to be proven, some of these Souval 57 pieces are really hard to find!!!
Looking forward to seeing some close-ups of the RK!!
This is one pic I have found that was from the Regimentals group......

Yes I know what you mean. However he listed it again not long ago. I posted a comment on it here when I saw it. Tom

Yes that's right. I remember now. I thought perhaps it had sold but been returned by the buyer. I don't like Regimentals much either and that was another reason I hesitated.

That's indeed the one - the presentation was very naive and clearly non-veteran related.
To me, it was someone who put together a collection and framed it to look nice.
Hence I removed ( but kept ) the framing and displayed to my own liking.

The KC indeed is a very special one - not what I expected, even better .... this picture will explain all - share your thoughts.

Thanks for the excellent close-up Mathijs!!
Now we can see what has happened!!!
The original swaz has been filed off, 57 style Oaks added, and the core re-painted...that's how it looks to me????
Very interesting! I would love to know the details and reasons behind why it was done????

Correct, the swastika was removed, the 57er style oaks placed on top and the entire core re-finished afterwards.
That leads me to be believe it was a Souval factory done job - unless a skilled jeweller could have done same.
The frame is pristine, no sign of any splitting or otherwise - core is magnetic.
