    Early St u L EK I + Etui.............

Gents, my St u L Boxed 57er EK I, a very early example using wartime parts in its construction, with what IMO is a wartime box (late war example ?) lovely frosting to the frame and polished edges to the cross...note the classic "nick" on the bend of the pin at the hinge assembly end.............box is marked on inner tray bottom "621.KB".
The box came with another early/mid EK I from Nigel some time ago......I swapped the crosses over, wanting to display the earliest EK i have in this wartime box, I notice Mathijs stated in an earlier thread "a typical 57 box" what is the difference between my box and an official 57er box ?
Perhaps a thread on boxes, EK's/RK's and others................
    Enjoy..............
    Prost ! Steve.

              Hi Steve!
Well, its a great cross/ etui combo!!
The EK1 is the earliest example of an S&L, and has a great top quality look to it, doesn't get much better than that!!
The etui's are a little more of a grey area!! Mathijs IMO was right when he said that was a typical example, but so IMO is yours also!!
There are a couple of etui types that normally turn up with S&L 57 EK'1's, and a couple of different types that turn up with Deumer 57 EK'1's, there are also the typical late-war halbetui type that can be found with both S&L and Deumer's in them!
When 57 production started, I would think that firms such as Deumer and S&L would use up any completed or near complete etui's first, some new parts were probably added to complete other leftover cases, they must have had more leftover inner trays than anything else, as the wartime marked type are found in cases for many years!!
Some vets probably put their newly bought 57 EK in their original wartime case, so when you find cased EK's from vets estates, groupings etc. it can be very difficult to know if the case is awarded wartime, wartime made but unused until the 57 period, or later assembled using some wartime parts!!!!
              Confusing??? Oh yes!!!!!!!!
              All Good though!!!!!!!!!

                Hi Steve,

                Nice combo, congrats!

Nigel is probably right, I have similar top-con S&L in different etui.

                Best, Miro
