    EK1 39/57 Clasp Double marked

My S&L set of 57 clasps is completed. EK1 clasp arrived today and it has double markings. One is at the center - as on my EK2 clasp - second "O" mark is near the catch. Hope you like it.

    Hi Miro!!
A nice S&L EK1 clasp, to go with your EK2 version!!
I like these clasps, but they are really small pieces, maybe that is why few people seem to collect them, which is a shame, as the early ones are very nicely made and of good quality, and are an important part of the history of the EK, especially in its 57 form!!
    Thanks for showing!!!!!!!!!

      Hi Miro
      Nice and rare!
After 1957 years veterans of I WW they were old guys!
      They had other problems.

      Best regards.

        Thanks for positive comments, guys!!!

Yes, Nigel, you are right, seems nobody collects these little gems, although in hand they are not as little as on photos - 30 x 15 mm is quite honourable dimension, IMO. But I always like it when shipping is more expensive than shipped item itself

Btw, as I remember from my EK2 clasp thread, these marked pieces are not very early. Is it the same with EK1 clasps?

          Hi Miro!
I have seen some clasps with the "0" mark, and then others that looked to be of the same date not marked, so its hard to judge just with the marks! I think the quality and type of finish is maybe better, the earliest usually have a matt black painted EK, frosted background and shiny mirror highlights on the numbers and raised parts!

I have not dared to purchase TR spanges. These may be the way to go. They make a very nice set actually.

Very nice looking duo there Miro.

I for one, would be very happy to add a set of these to my collection, but unfortunately they don't seem to come up for sale very often.

Please excuse the '57 newbie questions, but is the clasp the only difference between the first and second class versions? and could any of you guys tell me if the EK1 spange ever came in it's own case as the '39 version did?

              Regards - Danny

They don´t come up very often, but when they do, seems nobody is interested.

Yes, the hardware is the only difference between two classes. 1st class has safety pin, 2nd class prongs.

I don´t know anything about cases, would be interested as well... I saw some cases for 57 clasps on eBay, but repros were offered in it and case was not included in auction.

I haven't seen an EK1 clasp in a case, but its very likely that a case was made for these, the EK2 can sometimes be found in a two piece case, identical to the honor roll clasp............

Thanks for info and reference photo, Nigel.

Here is the case from american eBay that I was talking about. Clasp is desperate fake, so it looks the case is repro too - but looks sexy, I have to say...

                      Hi Miro!!
Yes, a modern made fake piece and fake case, everything that guy sells is the same I think!!
The photo is one I have on file, but I hope to add one of these to my collection soon!!
I would love to see a genuine case for an EK1 Spange, I think they must exist??

                        Hi Nigel,

Maybe the case is good, but for something completely else. He doesn´t offer it, it´s just there for display purposes, so I don´t think he is producing them as those desperate clasps...

Anyway, it took me only one day to think that 57-clasp-hunt is over. Now I will go for that EK2 clasp case, at least....

Thanks guys for answering my questions.
I am just after purchasing a 1939 first class version so now I am going to have to keep an eye out for one of these as they are next on my 'want' list.

Thanks again everyone for your help.

                          Regards - Danny

                          P.S.
Nigel, that cased set is fantastic!!
