Hi Patrick!! What a nice U-Boat haul you have landed!!!
The clasps, even though they are later with the open hingeblock, are still scarce pieces, looking at the loss of finish and patina, i would think they have been stored in maybe damp conditions? Something has certainly affected the condition, but actually i think it gives them a nice bit of character!!!
The stickpin looks nice, and the Kreigsabzeichen is also a nice piece, retaining a good looking finish, and nice detail!!
Looking at the large, round headed hingepin, coupled with the tapering pin and solid hingeblock, i would guess it was made around the early(ish) to mid 60's?? I'm sure Rudiger will know more, but a great, instant U-Boat collection!!
Thanks for sharing them all with us!!!!!!!!!
        -Nigel

          Hi Patryk,

Great to see you adding new 57er pieces! That's great buddy.

I like the stickpin and badge very much. Both fine originals.

The clasps, however, give me pause. The details are so very soft that they appear cast to me. Also, the might be chemically aged to help them look older than they actually are. Let's get some more opinions, but I don't like them at this point.

            Thanks for your comments

@Mike I know what you mean. The photos especially the bronce are to dark, so I brightened it.Now it looks blurry. It looks much better when you have it in your hand.

Ah well, the clasps might look weak and casted but i am sure that they have been made by our friend from vienna --> R.Souval
The pin is the typical more square variant that Souval used on his clasps.
I´ll show my silver clasp for comparison.

I would try to clean them, then they should look better and maybe with good daylight Patrick is taking some new pics of them.

The uboat is a very nice and early one, Nigel is correct with latest mid 60s IMO.
This red colour i have seen sometimes on other golden awards....wonder what this can be? Can you remove it somehow?

But great and collectable pieces, Patrick

The red color is only a reflection

I knew Rudiger would have some good insight into these pieces!!
I did'nt even think of Souval as the maker of the clasps, even though we have seen a few examples before!! That makes them more interesting, being Souval, rather than just later S&L imo!!

I had considered RS as a maker, but I see huge differences in the crispness of the details between your clasp and Patryk's. I'm not convinced at this point, although the pin does look similar.

Are you certain RS made cast, U-boot clasps? If so, I defer to your knowledge.

I don´t really think that these are casted. The pics are really not the best and if they are really casted......from Souval i believe everything.

Can´t say at the moment if he did really but it could have been IMO.

These look more like a zinc version for me ... and that would be typical Rudolf

Agreed Rüdiger! With RS, ANYTHING goes!

Patryk, would it be possible to take photos of any striations seen around the periphery of the clasps?
