    Procedure for issueing 1957 medals

    Hi all,

First post so apologies if this has already been answered but out of interest what was the procedure for awarding 1957 denazified awards.

Did recipients automatically get the new awards issued to them or did they have to claim them from the government?

Did they have to purchase them or were they issued free of charge?

Did they have to swap their old medals for the new 57 medals ?

What checks were in place to ensure they didn't claim medals they weren't entitled to?

    Hi Tim!!
First of all, welcome to the forum, and to the 57 section!!!
No problem with asking questions!! Try reading this thread for some detail on the 57ers and how they came about http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...ght=57er-exist
Basically the vets had to buy their own 57 replacement medals if they wanted them, they could keep their wartime awards, but of course, because of the banned swastika, were not aloowed to publicly wear them!
As far as i know, anyone could buy the 57ers, but only vets with the correct entitlement could wear them?
    Hope that helps a little!!

Hi Tim and welcome to the 57er forum!

Nigel has pointed you in the right direction to learn about these awards. Well done.

Stop by often as we're constantly learning and growing in this relatively new collecting field.
