Bundeskanzler Konrad Adenauer und Staatssekretär Walter Hallstein, 1959

Despite Hallstein is not wearing any military decorations, I thought the minis were fantastic (and the color picture too).

Anybody knows if Hallstein served during WW2?

It says in this Wikipedia article that he was an Oberleutnant in an Artillery regiment in France and ended up in a U.S. prisoner-of-war camp:

"Soldier and prisoner of war (1942–1945)

In 1942 Hallstein was called up, and he served in an artillery regiment[8] in Northern France with the rank of first lieutenant (Oberleutnant).[10] On 26 June 1944, during the Battle of Cherbourg, he was captured by the Americans[10] and sent to Camp Como, a prisoner-of-war camp in Mississippi.[14]

As a German prisoner of war in the United States, Hallstein started a "camp university",[9] where he held law courses for the prisoners.[14] As part of the Sunflower Project, a project to re-educate German POWs, he attended an "administrative school" at Fort Getty, where teaching included the principles of the United States federal constitution.[14] Hallstein remained a prisoner-of-war from June 1944 to mid-1945.[14]"

          Best regards,
          ---Norm
