This photo of Generalmajor Wilhelm Bleckwenn seems to be taken after the war. No eagle, no swastika on KC, DKiG or IAB...

              Hey everybody!

Were vets who lived on the east side of the Iron Curtain permitted to wear their awards? I imagine obviously without any swastikas or the like if they were allowed it. Hell, people in the east werent even allowed to refer to the town of Koenigsberg anymore, it had to be called Kaliningrad. Anyway, how about vets in the NVA?

              Thanks

No, it was absolutely forbidden. After the wall went down, several Knights Cross winners rushed to purchase 57 type & join the OdR. Tom

Thats a shame really. I'm sure quite a few vets in the East served in the NVA or at least in politics. Only makes sense though sense Konigsberger Klopse was referred to as Revanchisten Klopse

Lower part of the picture; without doubt it's a postwar photo of Bleckwenn.
