    Rare & Attributed S&L KVK1

    Hi Guys!!
Heres my first new arrival of 2013, and its one i'm really excited about!!!!
Firstly, this is an attributed piece, but a good friend of ours here, has also got another piece that belonged to the same guy, so i dont want to spoil things by saying too much yet, i'll leave that to someone else............
I'm just going to concentrate on the KVK itself, as its an important and rare piece on its own, even without the attribution!!!
The KVK looks to be an early one, the quality of the finish, is excellent, especially the mirror finsh, maybe the best i've seen on an S&L?? BUT............. Its the pin on this one that makes special!!!
It is of a type i have'nt seen before on a KVK1, in fact the only time i have seen this style before, is on an EK1 that George showed us a couple of years ago.
The pin, to me at least, looks very much like the one used on wartime zinc KVK1's by S&L.
It also has the bonus of the "4" MM, which is a nice addition, and very unusual on S&L pinbacks!!
    Anyway, heres a few photo's..................

Very nice KVK1 Nigel!! I am glad you got this rare piece for your collection.

Now I wonder does this come from the Officer estate I think it does.....

                  Best regards

                    You could be right there!!
I found a pic of George's EK1, which appears to have the same pin.......

Congratulation Nigel, a wonderful and rare piece!
It is always interesting to see new variations of 57er versions.

There is also always a crying and a happy eye, when a great honor Nachlass is splitting.
But that is not unusual by dealers, so they get more money.

The chance is so higher to get what you especially collect.

                        Hi Matthias!!
I know what you mean about groupings being split!! I also tried to get his medalbar, but was outbid on that
As you said, there are sometimes good things to come out of splitting a group, in this case, the KVK coming my way, as i would not have been able to afford the whole group if it had been kept together

                          I too remember that piece

Absolutely great you got it. That is a masterpiece for your collection, Nigel

No need to discuss now if it´s good or bad that groups are split up.....a dealer wants money, that´s all

IMO it´s more important to admire your first purchase in 2013 and you started with a bang here. That should be the earliest made one IMO, with maker mark and a fantastic finish.

                          Congrats, buddy....what a gem

Looks like 2013 is the year of the rare pieces

                            GREAT KvK !!

Hi Nigel ! Super nice & special KvK !! Another S&L mystery. I noticed your cross has the # 4 vertical and Gerorge's EK 1 has the # 4 horizontal, but for sure the same pin ! I know the grouping this comes from...I sure would like to have had the $$$$ to buy the whole thing myself ! Congrats on a wonderful cross ! Tom

                              Hi Nigel,

Indeed a shame it was split up, however do not think any of us could have bought the entire group otherwise.
Good to see the KvK ended up with you, lets hope more of us were able to secure what they wanted .

One thing that struck me looking at this piece is the repair on the pin ( red circle ).
Assume they took hardware from their late-wartime KvK's, added them onto 1957er and refinished them.
If I remember correctly the pin on a zinc "4" KvK was brass ?
