Small document / photo group of KC recipient Michael Hamburger

    Hello gentlemen,

Lady Luck was on my side with this small, but amazing photo & document group, belonged to KC recipient Michael Hamburger .
Had found it on eBay, but then suddenly the auction and therefore my bid was removed ( due to infraction on eBay policy ).
Luckily I had saved all the pictures and details of the vendor, so in the end it all worked out .

As said, a small but very nice and interesting group of documents and photo's.
Including some wartime snapshots, his OdR membership card (!!!) and a small card showing all his awards.
The group also came with - IMO at least - one of the best pictures I've seen with a veteran showing his 1957 awards .

Sadly I cannot find much more on this gentleman, nor the whereabouts of his 1957 awards .... .

    Thanks for looking,
    Mathijs

And then this amazing portrait of this brave veteran, showing 1957 Knights Cross in wear and mini-medal bar on the jacket .

I have tried to clear up the picture but the quality of the paper is no good ....

As far I can see, seems he is wearing a 2nd pattern KC by St&L.
That would fit in with the time frame he joined the OdR ( 1976 ).

Thanks, hope you enjoy the pictures !

              Hi Mathijs!!!!!
Great group of pics and paperwork!! The photo of Herr Hamburger wearing his RK & mini medals is awesome, i'd agree with you, in that it is one of the best 57ers in wear photo's, that alone is superb, everything else is a bonus!!!
Interesting to see how late in the war he was awarded the RK, April 14th 1945!!!
Thanks for showing, and a great addition to any collection!!!!!!!!

                Indeed a very nice group.
                Especially the membership card!
Congratulation Mathijs to secure this small group!

Interesting to see, that the Ostmedaille is not on the mini medal bar.

I think its there ( between EK2 and IAB ) - although it looks like a BWB .

It is a BWB: oval shape, completely black and neutral ribbon.

                        1. Vorsitzender is Martin Steglich

Hello Mathijs ! Great grouping !! I just checked my OdR members book and I see that Martin Steglich was the 1. Vorsitzender during this time period and still held that post in 1985 which is the newest book I have. I have them from 1975, 1980, an adendem book from 1982 & my last one is from 1985. By the way I met M. Hamburger at an OdR anual reunion in 1981. My notes reflect that he is indeed wearing a second pattern RK. I LOVE the photo of him wearing his RK !!!! Many thanks for posting this group, I really am interested in these ! Tom

                              His address & work career

Mathijs, He lived at the same address I have at the time of his death...possibly you could write to see if the family still lives there ??? A longshot at best I know....but??? His lifetime work career was as a Werkmeister in his hometown. If I can help please let me know. AND as of today I still have not heard back from Ludwig Bauer. Tom
