                    Question for Nigel

Hi Nigel ! First of all, thanks for posting this thread, I really enjoy it !!! Now...a question : The S&L Knights Cross - The sandblasted frame 800 marked -non magnetic second pattern core Type : Is it known WHEN these first were made and showed up on the collector market ?? I can't seem to find an answer to this. I have one I purchased in 1993, but it has a painted core done before the cross was put together. Most I have seen have a terribly painted core that was done after the frames were on the cross. Thanks my friend ! Tom

                      Hi Tom!!!
I would guess that the sandblasted frame coupled with the core painted after assembly appeared sometime around the time you bought the one you mentioned.
Its possible that the RK you bought had been made a little earlier? Did you buy it direct from S&L???
Without knowing the details of your RK, i would have said the sandblasted frame was around 1990, but maybe you can push that date forward a few more years!!!
Theres not really been any study done on more modern pieces, it would be interesting to know when they changed the manufacturing technique!!!!!!!!
                      -Nigel!!
PS, glad you liked the thread!!!!!!!!!!

                        Purchase date on KC

Hi Nigel, Thanks for the info. The one I have, I purchased in 1993 at a military show from a dealer named Jon Winter. So from what you said, they probably did start making these in the early 90's or so. More questions than answers AGAIN. Howerver I did purchase 2 sets of Oakleaves at a visit to S&L's shop in 1984. These are both marked 800 down at the bottom left side by the ribbon loop. They came un-cased in just a small cellophane envelope. I paid $30.00 for the pair. I quess some day we will have most of our answers ????? ( I hope ). Thanks again Nigel ! Tom
