    Bunch of Shields

    Hello all,

These came in today. Another nice looking group. Not an expert on these but they look good and all the prongs are attached and I think aged well.

    Would love your opinions.
    Regards,
    Rudy

That´s a nice bunch of shields, Rudy.

I am still no expert but will tell what i see

Unususal that the silver Narvik has not the shades that we are used to see.
The one Kuban the same....no shades and the other has them (better look IMO)

          Some have later attached prongs.

Phew, very one has it´s own character and i like them all. If i remeber it correct the price was still ok and fair and sou you got IMO a nice collectable set of shields.
Now only the Cholm is missing.

Looking at the non shaded shields my gut feeling tends these to be the earlier version than the shaded ones...but who knows if i am correct

            Hi Rudy,

Sorry so slow in replying. Much is going on here.

I like your shields. Like RĂ¼diger said, we know too little about them to speak intelligently. Sad, but true.

We don't yet know if the shading was used in certain periods of manufacture or by different makers. I've seen shields with crisp strikes both with and without shading. I've also seen less crisp strikes with and without shading, mostly without. You Narvik shields and the Demjansk are somewhat less crisp, which leads me to think they are later, but it's pure speculation on my part.

I wish I could be more definitive in dating and naming makers, but...

Thanks Rudiger and Mike. It seems we are all rusty in evaluating the shields. At least we have a start with these and as new ones come we have something to compare with.

              Regards,
              Rudy

                Hi Rudy!!
                Great "instant" shield collection!!!
As the guys have said, not that much is known about shields really, wether the darkened versions are earlier, or the 3 or 4 prong variants, different solders etc etc.
Maybe like Mike said, the Narviks could be a little later? but its nice to see the different forms of the Kuban!!
All in all a very nice set!!!!!!!!!
