    Deumer KVK1 w/ replaced hardware

    Hi Guys!
Just got this early Deumer KVK1 with swords, its one of the earliest versions, using a leftover late war zinc body and a new central disc to cover the swastika!
It was quite cheap because, unfortunately, it has lost its original hardware
I'll start with some pics of the case, which i think is also a wartime leftover, but the inner tray looks later.......

The KVK is typical of these early Deumers, having lost its silver wash, leaving a grey zinc body which contrasts with the 57 central disc!!!

          And now the sad part!!
The original hardware has been replaced by this flimsy pin set-up!!!

But......there is a twist in this tale
I wanted to make sure the inner tray was later, and not wartime, so i carefully removed it, and wedged tight underneath..................
            019.jpg
What looks like an original Deumer pin???

The tray is i believe a later one, probably 57 ear, as the glue that held it in still looks old???

              So.....what to do???
Should i attempt to solder the old pin back on, or leave it as it is????????

                Leave as is.

Hello Nigel, I would leave it as is. It is so unusual that it's life story makes leaving it as is more interesting & fun to have such a varient. IMO, Tom

Saw it myself, but was put off by the missing hardware .... priced very well, so a good buy from your side .
Like Tom says, I would not mess around too much with the hardware, would keep as is now.

Thanks for the advice guys, which i had every intention of following!!
But......... that pin has just come off in my hand, it was only glued on, so there might be some restoration work done after all
I do have quite a few spare bits and pieces, and i've repaired a couple of catches before with the soldering iron so, we'll see how it goes!!!
If the pin that was under the tray is original to this KVK, then thats the rarer pin type for these postwar/wartime leftovers, that pin type is more usually seen on proper wartimers, either tombak, or latewar zinc, like this one........

Today is the day of the interesting pieces, or ?

What a harder to find beauty, Nigel. The disc looks great with the polished 1939 and the edges of the wreath.

I just wanted to ask how the new pin is attached but read it was only glued so IMO a homemade repair.

Wish you luck with trying to repair it, i never had the possibility to try that....
With now complete missing hardware it´s really worth a try

                        Thanks Rudiger!!
I've had a look in my little box of spare bits and pieces, and i've found a round wire catch already mounted on a circular catchplate, not sure if its from a Deumer, maybe not, but the catchplate is a perfect fit for the circular recess in the KVK, so i'll use that!!!
All i need to find or make, is a square catchplate to go under the hingeblock!!!
I'll give it a try, if it does'nt work, i'll just glue the crappy pin back on!!!

                          Hi Nigel,
Nice KvK1 buddy! I've always liked the war timers with the replaced disk. This is a nice one. Shame about the hardware, though I bet you'll have it jiffied up in no time.
I would agree that the case is postwar, though its tough to say from exactly when.
Congrats on a nice pick up!

The etui itself seems to be a wartime issue, the inlay tray is not .....

Thanks for the clarification Mathijs. I believe you are correct.
