    Souval 57 SWB

I picked up this Souval SWB. The catch is Souval, but the pin looks 70's S&L.

Any thoughts? I know that they used some of the same hardware, but was this a common set up?

    Thanks!

      Hi Jonathan!

That's an excellent example of a Souval piece!

I've been checking for the last several minutes and the die characteristics are like neither S&L, nor Deumer. This badge utilizes Souvals own WB die, IMO.

I must say, the quality is OUTSTANDING especially for a Souval! We're somewhat used to seeing zinc made badges and poorly finished pieces, but this SWB is fantastic! I'll let those more familiar with Souval production speak to the date it was made.

Your photos are great too! Nice work!

      Congrats!

        Hi Jonathan!!
Thats a great SWB, a really nice Souval piece, and very interesting too!!
As Mike said, it uses Souval's own unique WB die, which has the extra berries on the wreath, that other makers designs dont have........

The hardware is an unusual combination of Souval's own postwar catch, which is found on their earlier pieces, and S&L style open hingeblock and pin, found on later Souval pieces!!
The quality of the badge itself makes me think that part is early too, so it seems to be a later assembled badge which includes earlier parts!!
One of the nicest looking Souval WB;s i've seen!!!
        Very Nice!!!!

I like the front side, but the hardware on the back is quite ugly ( IMO ) .... I'll follow the guys and call it Souval ( for lack of better judgement ).

            Thanks!

Good info Nigel on the use of S&L hardware by Souval (in the 70s I assume).

              Hi Jonathan!!
From what i've seen Souval were using S&L hardware from the early 60's at least, the pin style and open hingeblock on your SWB would date it later, maybe around the late 60's/ early 70's??? i would guess!!
              Nice piece!!!!
