      Ok guys,

the bar was sent to "Kommando Territoriale Verteidigung" in Bad Godesberg.

For better explanations of that unit i am the wrong man....a short look gave me an overview but hard to describe for me in english.

You can translate it as "Commando territorial defence", maybe that helps you

Congratulation Mike to a NAMED DK FJ RIBBON BAR

I can understand that you are a little bit disappointed, BUT you got
first a unnamed RK ribbon bar and now you have a named DK ribbon bar
with many coppies of pictures of him and his documents!!!!

ONLY one day and he got the Nahkampfspange der Luftwaffe! Great information.

It is very interesting that the ribbon bar on the picture is an other one as
the shown of picture, as Tom already mentioned!
Not only the Kreta and Narvik is other round, also the Flutmedaille and
        Sportabzeichen!

That's EXCELLENT info Rüdiger! Thanks VERY MUCH!
So, are we talking about a "Special Forces" type of unit then?

Thanks Matthias! You know I value your input on this VERY HIGHLY! Thank you for taking the time to comment!

I just now realized what you and Tom mean about a third bar!
The portrait photo does indeed show a different bar than is in the same pic! Three bars! Where is the third???

the germans did not make this very easy for an englishman to explain

Kommando Territoriale Verteidigung is the territorial heer corp:

vbk 31 HQ is based in Dusseldorf but it covers Bonn, bad godesberg its patch is the Wehrbereichskommando II

there are 4 different territoriale armys in germany, these are WBK I, WDK II, WBK III and WBK IV each of the four is split into 6 or 8 sections
in the WBK II the HQs are Gieben, Saarlouis, Trier, Dusseldorf, Arnsberg and AugustDorf (our man was dusseldorf) annoyingly each of these 6 sections is also split into more sections (corps) which is where the VBK 31 comes in now im not even going to bother trying to explain that because it will bore you close to death but surfice to say hes in the VBK 31 taadaaa

            now wheres my beer

            best regards

Haha, now you have a new target Mike!

Here is a link to the German explanation of the Kommando Territoriale Verteidigung.
Maybe you can translate it to learn a little bit more besides Toms comment.

Tom has just sent me pics of the arm patch and breast badge Heer Urich would've worn. Does this look right to you Matthias?

That's good stuff Matthias! I wouldn't have known that without you pointing it out. Thanks!

Tom has apparently signed off for the night. Perhaps he can tell us his source tomorrow. He's quite good at these matters.

sorry guys 10pm or i get yelled at

as you may know i collected jackets way before 57ers and have had around 100 jackets pass through my hands everyone of which if it has been an officer i have tryed to research see if a name pops up that might have owned it(if a name was there that helped also there have been recepits for various things which helps narrow down where he may have been stationed) everytime i reasearched a particular partch i right it down on a bit of paper and follow on from there. i now have a 2 ring binder very nearly full of info on everything BW now i need to do one on 57ers

                      best regards
                      tom
                      ps:
one of the reasearchs im doing at the moment:

my silver wound badge S&L 60s was found in an 1965 fallschirmjager oberstleutnant jacket still have it which was stationed at WBK III the receipt in his pocket was a shop in halle led to the fact that he was in VBK 81 which is Halle. its quite fun just reasearching who your jacket may have been owned by. now all io need to do is find all obsertleutnants in the VBK 81 between the years of probaby 1963-65 (1963 is a rough guess because the jacket shows no sign of replaced shoulder boards from the triangle tip to the rounded) which would assume he either had a new jacket made instead of converting the old or he joined the VBk then if i can't find anyone who had the same build etc as the jacket end of research and i display the 57er nicely on the jacket and put it on a manniquin if i do find the bloke i still display it nicely but behind the mannequin i put a frame with (if possible) a photo and his service record

                          thanks Nigel

i forgot to mention luftwaffe tunics because they have no patchs it means that unless there is a name its practiacally impossible to research
here are the pics of the previously mentioned fallschirmjager jacket with wound badge attached http://s1061.photobucket.com/albums/...t=DSCF0370.jpg
next picture is of my 2 jackets currently being researched the other one is a 1956 affenjacke to an nco he was in the signals notice the pointed collartabs compared to the rounded ones enjoy

                          best regards

Excellent stuff Tom! Maybe one day we can work out a deal for an early, BW FJ jacket!

Later this evening (US time) I'll be posting a very rough translation of what appears to be Urich's letter of application to the BW. It lists out his wartime exploits and gives a little info on how he earned his awards. Pretty fascinating stuff really.

I still have some work to do on making a sensible translation, so be patient.

can't wait for Urichs history that will be brilliant i think me and Nigel will have to try and hide somewhere so we can stay up later

                              best regards

                                Sounds great Tom! Much appreciated!

I think everyone will like Urich's history. As I mentioned, it almost appears to be in the form of a resume or application. One would think if it were some sort of application for the BW, they would have his military history very well documented.

I'll post it and let everyone share their thoughts on what is.
