I can't find the info on this subject, so I will post it.

What was the typical length of a 57 RK ribbon?

I assume some would have original stock and not glow, but most do?

How can I distinguish between early RK ribbon and modern repro?

I'm not sure if there was a standard length for the RK ribbon, i'm sure Mathijs can open a few cases and get measuring!!
The early 57er ribbons have a white thread count of (if i remember) around 23/24?? Later ones are usually lower, plus the early ones have the rounded weave ends, not just straight like later ones!
You can use the UV test on some ribbons, for wartime its good, but for 57 period, i think the burn test is better, take a few threads and burn them, if early, they will burn to ash, if modern, they will simply melt, more like plastic!!
There might not be any specific threads on the subject, but i'm sure we have touched on it in various threads??

I don't know of any standard or set length for post 1945 RK ribbon, whether wartime made, left over stock or 57 type. I have it mind that the wartime awarded RKs came with around 1 to 1.5 metres of ribbon - I can't remember exactly, but it was a goodlong length. I suspect that the ribbon for a 57 RK was an additional or 'extra' purchase, and it would be up to the purchaser to specify what length they wanted.

not really a set lenth really as veterans shortened and customized them for wear doubt many keep the same lenght as found in the etui. the burn test is probably best but that only distingishs a rough age (clearly ribbons are a lot harder than tr ones)
