Haha! I know Matthias! As I said before, the better the collection, the more difficult the choice! Another collector PM'd me yesterday saying he'd gone over his pieces until his head was spinning and then he gave up! I encouraged him to keep trying.

WOW!That's an impressive mini bar and named too!
Would you be so kind as to list his awards, particularly the foreign awards?

I like the box too! A very good friend has some chains and mini bars that came in similar boxes. Is there a maker name on the box by chance?

Super stuff Matthias! Thanks so much for sharing it with us!

My mini chain from Pinkepank came in the same box
There´s no maker mark on it. These boxes can often be found for mini medal bars or mini chains. Now there´s only the question if it´s a maker typical box or only a standard box for jewelers or makers.

          pfff, what a difficult question.

I really have no idea what my favourite 57 is.

But between all the groups, badges, clasps, crosses; there is one item that catches my eye all the time.
It is not fancy at all but it just catches my eye because it is so little between all the huge 57's.

It is a prinzen size EK1 made by Assmann.
I made a quick picture, but when the time is there I will start a thread about it.

That's truly a great one Luud! The simple fact that it gets your attention obviously makes it special!

I know your appreciation for and history with EK's, so no surprise that a piece such as this would find a special place in your heart.

I very much look forward to the thread dedicated to this exceedingly rare cross.

              Hi Tom,

I'm very happy that you're enjoying this thread! Believe me when I tell you that what you're seeing here is just the"tip of the iceberg!" All of these fine collectors have many more equally rare and stunning pieces in their collections. This thread was simply dedicated to what they feel is their current favorite. There's a virtual treasure trove of rare and early collectibles to be seen in this subforum.

How about you my friend? Have anything you'd like to share with us?

                Hi Mike !

Hello Mike and thank you for the nice welcome ! I've been collectiing since 1952. I guess 1957 items for about 5 years now. I have a RK with oakleaves. 2 pattern core, magnetic, unmarked, as are the oakleaves. It's cased with a super neck ribbon with ends altered by the owners wife, with a hook & eye device for wear. This was a gift to me from the Oakleaves winner about 10 years ago. I first saw this cross at his home in 1975. He told me he had purchased it two years earlier. It's the prize of my 57 items ! As soon as I get what I need to post photos, I'll be posting them along with the proof on who it belonged to. The condition is fantastic. Again thanks to you & the other "57 guy's" ! Tom

                  Hi Tom,

Well, how about that? You received the RK with Oak Leaves directly from the recipient and it was worn by the man? Now that is something special! That's very exciting Tom! Very exciting! I know we'll all be waiting for your post! As you well know, provenance takes an otherwise nice piece to a whole new level.

It's interesting that he waited until the mid 70's to purchase the cross. Any idea why he didn't get one earlier or did he have multiple crosses. Was this his only 57er item?

It's good to hear of a seasoned collector such as yourself getting into the 1957 awards! Many TR collectors fail to appreciate this continuation of the German military awards family.

Welcome and get cracking on those photos my friend!

                    Hello Again Mike

Hello again, I know he traveled and lived abroad for several years Mexico & Central & South America. He was never a member of the New German military after the war. As far as I know, this was the ony 57 item he owned. At least I never saw any others. Tom

                      My Favorite 57

Ok Mike. In between working in the yard and getting ready for Easter dinner with the family, I took a few pictures of my favorite. It belongs to Helmut Mahlke the famous stuka pilot. My first grouping and love them all. Hope you do as well.
                      Regards
                      Rudy
