    Brigadegeneral ribbon bar

    I want to show you my new ribbon bar.

    It belongs to Bundeswehr Brigadegeneral Gerhard Langguth.

    He was part of the "Unternehmen Eiche" , the rescue of
    Benito Mussolini in 1943. Langguth was responsible for the flighing operation.
    Therefore he was awarded with the Deutschen Kreuz in Gold!
    The operation is very interesting, and you can find a lot on the internet.

    After the war he served from 1958 - 1972 in the Bundeswehr.
    Unfortunately I can't find anything about the Bundeswehr, so if anybody
    have a picture of him there please post.
    Langguth died in 2008.

    The ribbon bar is not the earliest. It was sewn on the tunic. It is in a wonderful
    condition and has honest wear. The "Doppelabzeichen" is not often to find
    on bars. It would be interesting, when he got the Bundesverdienstkreuz
    1. Klasse, then we exactly know the date of production.

      Very very nice

      Nice looking bar and i always told that i like combinations TR and BRD on one bar.

      What was or is the provenance that you can be sure?

      Such named bars are always great and this here has a fantastic history...Gran Sasso raid

        Great bar and more importantly, to a quite famous man!!
        I read that Langguth did a lot of the planning for the raid, after several recon flights!!
        I have'nt seen any pics of him in his Bundeswehr years unfortunately.

          Very nice ribbon bar of a high awarded person.
          A name behind it makes the history alive!

          Maybe not the earliest like you mention.
          But IMO not too late either. Early/mid sixties?

          Was it possible to have a BvK 1st class and not a 2nd class?

            Luud, yes it is possible to get the 1. Klasse first.
            It is not necassary to get each class one by one.
            It is also possible to get as well higher classes.

            The seller told me, that he sold a uniform with
            ribbon bar too. He told me the name. And I am
            sure that it is right.

            I hope I will find someday a picture of the BW.

              Excellent ribbon with some fantastic history Matthias!

              I like the mix of awards from WWII and BW service. Nice that his rank grew all the way to Brigadegeneral! A solid soldier!

              Not only a Gran Sasso participant, but a planner as well? Then, he worked closely with the FJ's on the raid! Very exciting!
              The man awarding your man the DK is none other than General Kurt Student, the father of Parachute Troops and the creator of paratroop tactics!

              I'll keep an eye out for a BW era photo. Perhaps we can get a more modern face to put with this fine bar!

                    I have found this one too, on this page there is something written about his
                    Bundeswehr career (1958-1972).

                    There is also written, that his wife got the massage that he is dead.
                    It must be a great day when she got the massage that he is still alive!

                    P.S. Langguth was one of ~250 Generals of the Bundeswear who were
                    awarded with the DKiG.

                      I didn't about the 250 DK, BW Generals! Very interesting!

                      Do you happen to know how many total soldiers from the TR era went on to serve in the BW?

                        I have read, that from 18.000.000 Wehrmacht soldiers 40.000 went on to serve in the Bundeswehr.
                        So there are many ribbon bars out there.
