    Bremen 'Iron Roland'

    I'm sure it has another name, but I can't think what it is right now, but is this '57 'Iron Roland' worth 25 pounds?

    As I cannot post pics, Nigel has kindly agreed to post them for me - only these 3 available.

        Thanks Nigel - I have done a search and there is a thread about originals of these, and it seems they were being made by S&L in 1939 and in the postwar period. I'm just not sure if this is an early one, as it sould be in 'tarnished steel' whatever that looks like.
        It's a pretty obscure award, and most of us will never see an original.

          Happy to help with the pics Ray, sorry i can't help with the badge!!
          Its a badge i've never seen before, either in wartime or postwar form!
          It looks to have S&L hardware, which is consistent with what you know.
          The hardware might give a few clues as to date, it has the thinner catch used up to about 67/68,
          The pin is held in place by a large round headed hingepin, i think S&L started using that around the mid 60's, so i think a date of about 65/66 ish??
          Certainly a very unusual and interesting badge!!!!

            Hi guys,
            It's a Freikorps award, one of 3 FK awards ( together with Baltic Cross and Silesian Eagle) which were allowed to wear during the 3rd Reich times. Period badges are really rare and hard to find!

              I have decided not to buy this badge as I really do not like the dealer concerned, and he is a known and prolific 'rip off' artist. Having said that, there is nothing wrong with this award, so if anyone is interested in it please PM me and I will give the details on where it can be found.

              Ray.

                Just to inform;
                There is a nine page article in the German Internationales Militaria-Magazine nr. 150 from June-July 2011, by Uwe Lautenschläger.
                So, in the last issue!!
