Sorry ... fake to me ... certainly due to the wrong frame, core and the silver mark on the front ...

Mmmmm....bit of a strange one this!!!
I can see Mathijs' concerns about this RK!
First, its not a Morigi fake, which account for the vast majority of 2nd pattern fakes out there, but there are things about it that dont match an ordinary S&L 2nd pattern
Its a piece i'd love to have in hand, or at least see many closeup pics of various parts of the cross.
For me the font style is unusual, especially on the "1939", its close to S&L, but with some definite differences, also seem to be slight differences in the oakleaves.
The frame, i'm not 100% sure on, it does'nt appear to show any known flaws, but some dont, it does'nt have the smooth corners that some have, and it also does'nt have the corner cut-line found on later frames, the "800" mark does'nt look right for S&L, more like the style found on wartime fakes??
The overall condition of the RK also gives us cause for concern, as its very rare to find a core that looks so worn and washed out looking, could have been artificially aged??? not sure??? The frame too, not any sign of a nicely silvered frame???
        Is the core magnetic???
If its a fake. its not one i've seen before, but it does'nt match known originals IMO..........

          57 knights cross

Hi Nigel the core is magnatic . The frame is a war time frame or so I was told. The vet had it made for him to wear after the war . Thanks

            Hi!
            Thanks for your reply
I'm not sure about the wartime frame, its a "dipping" ring for a start, which many think are doubtful, then the 800 mark, i think, is usually central, under the ring, unless its accompanied by L/12 or similar?
I think you should post this in the Crosses of the Wehrmacht section, Dietrich, Gentry etc. will be able to tell you for sure if the frame is wartime or not!!
If it is a wartime frame, then the core could well be custom made??

Good story, but it still does not clear away from the fact that its IMO a fake piece ....
