Very strange ... the hinge block is an open one which has been filled with solder.
This set-up is found on recently made fakes ... which of course makes me wonder about this piece .... .

On the other hand, could be yet another variant, but I'll let the other guys have their say about it ...

Well its a strange one for sure!!!
I think the hingeblock may be ok, it looks like one of those semi-open types, i've got a couple of EK1's with that set-up, Daniel will tell us if its an open type filled with solder or not!
The pin looks like one of S&L wartime variants, but not 100% sure, i know some had tooling marks on them similar to the earliest S&L 57 EK pins?
The one thing that is a puzzle is.........
You would have thought they would have used up any leftover wartime hardware on the earliest badges, which this is'nt........
Then again, after Mathijs' "B" & "C" framed RK, nothing surprises me anymore!!!

            Hi,

"You would have thought they would have used up any leftover wartime hardware on the earliest badges, which this is'nt."

I think, that they used the leftover wartime hardware on earliest badges and crosses, but before 1957/1958.

They used them, like Souval in Austria, on many copies (not originals) of WWII decorations, they used them on "fantasy" pieces (not official) like sports badges without swastika, they used them on other sports badges like DSA and LSA before 1952.

IMO SuL used metal pins to get a better styling during the press process.
