    Souval KVK1

Just recieved this Souval KVK1 from Austria, its only the 3rd one i've seen, so i'm guessing they did'nt make too many!!
Size is the same as an S&L piece, weight 22g
Construction is totally different, this is made of two seperate pieces, front and back soldered together, you can see the join line on side views.
Unlike S&L or Deumer KVK's, this has no "1939", just a plain, pebbled central disc.
The hardware is also interesting, it has the earliest S&L coke bottle pin, complete with usual tool mark near hinge end, the hinge itself is Souvals own, the catch appears to be S&L's early thin flatwire type, but both hinge and catch are mounted on small plates!!
    Heres a few pics.....026.jpg

im going to bump this thread
its interesting kvk as its got the hardware of a s&L ek1 even down to the mark on the top of the pin this clearly proves there was at least some cohesion between the manufacters it would definatly be interesting to know when this one was made!!

                I agree

I agree with this...My early S&L has the exact same pin with the mark on the top. It looks like this one is also slightly vaulted ? The 2 piece construction is very interesting & well constructed. Very neat cross !!! Tom

Thanks for bumping this one Pete! I always thought this was an interesting piece, but sadly got no comments at all when i first posted it
It was the first time we had seen a KVK1 in 57 form by Souval, and(as far as i know) the first time Souval's unique two part casting method was seen!
All that, coupled with the very early hardware got my interest!!
Heres a pic from the book " German Medal Makers & Their Marks" by Mark Woods, it shows a very similar piece, this one has a slightly later pin MM'd L/58, it also has the same flaw on the 3 O'clock arm.............
