    Hi Grant,

Do you mean this medal bar (see attachment)? Like Winkler says in his description (3 Italian decorations and 1 Persian, actual Iran):

Deutsch-Italienische Afrikafeldzugmedaille in Bronze (Italian-German Nothern Africa's campaign medal in Bronze, for NCO and EM)
Italienische Tapferkeitsmedaille in Silber (Italian Bravery Medal in Silver, this latter medal was scarcely awarded also to German soldiers)
Italien Verdienstorrden der Republik, 1. model of the Italian Merit Order of the Republic
Iran/Persien, Order of the lion, officer class with rosette

I saw it on Winkler's stand in Stuttgart and he was selling the all lot (bar with the IC 1st class mod. 57 and the German Cross in Silver mod. 57) for Eur 700.-, because according to him he purchased this group all together from a someone who didn't know the name of the bar's owner!!! Curiously enough now he is selling the bar for Eur 450.- + Eur 80.- (EK) + Eur 325.- (DKiS), total is Eur 855.-.

    Ciao,

    Claudio

i don't know if splitting are the correct words - perhaps the breast awards didn't belong to the group before.

and if yes, shouldn't there be a slight chance to id the recipient?

Just a question; should the Persian sun and lion have a laying lion??? As faar as I know native persians received the order with a standing lion in the medaillon and foreigners had the lion laying....

I thought so too-- armed standing lion for Muslims and lying down for foreigners. But then I thought the ribbon was all green.

Maybe those no longer applied for Pahlevi issues?

First, it is not the Order of the Lion and Sun (Nishan-e Shir ve Khurshid). That Qajar dynasty order has been obsolete since 1925. It is the Order of Humayoun (Nishan-e Humayun), awarded during the Pahlavi dynasty (1925-1979). Regarding the Lion and Sun, the distinction between foreign and native awards dates from an 1856 decree, but was abolished in 1872.

The Iranian order is likely post-war, and the Italian order certainly is, given that it was only established in 1951 (Legge 3 marzo 1951, n. 178 (G.U. n. 73 del 30 marzo 1951)). BTW, in March 2001, on the 50th anniversary of the Order, it was redesigned by Presidential decree.

So most likely someone involved in post-war diplomatic or business activities that got him the West German, Italian and Iranian awards.
