    posting pictures wich aren't yours

    Hi Guys,

I want to hear you thought about posting stolen pictures from the internet that are frequently posted in the 1957 sections on the Fora.

In the last 6 months it already happend "19" times that items are being posting that I honestly bought an paid for, by a few people active in the '57 sections.
Those 19 items/groups are almost ALL my items/groups that I bought the last 6 months from the internet !!!!!!

I was already annoyed about this before a couple of times.
Yesterday the same happend and I saw another item that I won and paid for being posted AGAIN on another Forum (wich is strangely enough extreme slow on my pc).
This time it was a RK wich is said to be "not" magnetic.

Every time someone post stuff from me, I feel that others have the power to deside if my items are for public use or not.
I feel like I have nothing to deside myself, others make the desiscion for me all the time.
So being anoyed changes into being %^$%^$.

The people who post my items don't seem to care about the fact is that the pictures are stolen from the internet and are posted without permission of the maker of the pictures (the seller who also owns the rights).
And often the added text in the pictures has been cut off.

The buyer (me) is also not happy with it because I finally want to post my new additions myself and I don't want to post them if they already have been posted before, often with additional information wich adds nothing to the discussion about the items itself like the price that I have paid.

Now you guys know how I think about it.
But I would like to know how you guys think about this.

For the people that are discussing it on another Fora I will post a picture with the RK in question and how it reacts to a magnet.

Hi Luud! I can see you feel very strongly about this!!
The pictures that you are talking about, are these pics from Ebay of pieces that you went on to win, or are they pics that you have posted on various fora that have then been taken from there and then posted again elsewhere??
I only ask, because i think there is a difference, but i can understand that either way, you want to choose what pieces you want to show and when!!!

Well Luud, in this particular case I feel a finger pointing my way .

IMO, if an item is placed onto eBay, I feel I have the right to openly discuss such item.
Can I post the pictures ... agreed, a different story. Can I post a link to that eBay auction ... for sure I can.

Also IMO, if such thread is created for educational reasons - in this case to discuss if a 1st pattern S&L does exist with non-magnetic core or not - we can only benefit.

If we are not allowed to post pictures and discuss items, how are we to learn what is right and what is wrong ... How do we then learn about new fakes being sold on eBay on daily basis ???
Do we then have to spend our money on these fakes, in order for us to post them on the forum ??? Or do I contact a seller, asking him if its ok to discuss his fake item on a forum ???
Example ... If something on e-stand is being sold .. is then no-one allowed to open a discussion in a subforum about it ? If it can weed out the fakes from the originals ... .

If you feel you strongly about this, pls feel free to contact a moderator and have all such threads removed.
I would then also want to apologize to you or any other party involved for "mis-use" of their pictures ... I shall try to avoid doing this in the future ... .

I do want to add that I didn't mean in any way to point a finger to someone. So it is not personally meant.

In this case I used the very last item of me being posted.
And that was this RK where the pictures were stolen from an auction where the pictures weren't even good enough to add anything to the discussion.
I already counted 18 more threads of items/groups of me that have been posted on various Fora by various members on a similar way.

The purpose of this thread was not to start a huge discussion about copyrights or the succes with taking legal actions.
I only wanted to show that some people are not happy with the development, that it became a common thing where pictures have been stolen and used for starting a discussion.
I also noticed that the threads are mostly started by members that also tried to buy it but didn't get them.

Contacting a moderator about removing pictures is useless because I am the owner of the items, not the owner of the pictures!
So pictures can't be removed on my request.
So I just made itclear that I was annoyed about my pictures being posted but sofar it just seem to be ignored.

The rights about the pictures on the Fora is a completely other thing.
And if some one of the members have problems that pictures become public property, they have the possibility to protect themselves by for example putting a watermark on the pictures.

I only hope that the members that post frequently think twice before posting images from the "hunting area" where we all know that there is a 95% chance that one of the other members on the Fora is the buyer of the item.

          Hi Luud,

I hesitate to comment because I see you feel strongly on this issue and I have no wish to offend. It's just that, as you yourself have said, posted pictures on public and commercial websites without watermarks are now out there in the public domain and fair game for posting by anyone elsewhere. Even "copyrighted" watermarked material could be used under "fair use" rules for discussion. Of course one can't pretend that such a photo was created by the new poster or use someone else's copyrighted photo for profit.

The bottom line is if someone covets the photos of their item as much as they covet the actual item, they should avoid ever posting photos and just email them to known friends for discussion whom they trust not to share with others. Just like one would only put photos on their Facebook page that they don't mind others sharing.

But photos that were taken of the item by others before they acquired the item are out of the bag. In the end, it's just a photo, not the original item, and once it's "given away" on the internet the genie is out of the bottle.

If someone asked me to remove a posted photo they recognized of an item in their collection, I would sadly agree simply in sensitivity to that person, but there is no real obligation to do so, and in my view, it hurts the hobby and the advancement of of our collective knowledge.

          Best regards,
          ---Norm
