Hi gents and friends,
with a bunch of luck and very fast reacting i was able to get this very nice group.
These pieces are directly from the family as the vet passed away 5 weeks ago
May he rest in piece.
I was a bit puzzled about the Narvik AND east medat AND africa campaign medal but it is possible and a little research in the Internet gave me confirmation.
There´s no lower ribbon bar missing as this was really the only one he had. After the war he worked as a firefighter and wore this bar on his tunic. I think it was enough for him to show only his highest awards.
All awards were/are originally mounted on this Reichsmarine flag and i only remounted them for scanning. I will display all in the same way he did, for respect
His name was Hans Meik and the only known ship he served is the destroyer Z 14 "Friedrich Ihn". He for sure served on other ships but sadly there´s no more known about these as the son is now more than 70 years old. Between me and the son there was one collector who directly sold the group to me so i am not able to ask more about this brave man. But all pieces are for sure awarded.
To the pieces:
- Navy clasp: early one (hardware) but very first die with the known flaw
- destroyer: nothing more to say, very early in perfect condition
- minesweeper: interesting like Norm´s new one, it´s a thinner and lighter one than the very
early versions, IMO because of another reverse die (see raised o mark)
- EK I: IMO very early one
- WB: interesting one with a wide pin but small catch and closed hingeblock, early IMO
- Ribbon bar: usual quality with only his highest/most important awards
- Stickpin: Well, i love that one with a great quality and well detailled
- schrapnell/shell splinter: That is for me the most impressing item! That was the piece what
wounded him. It´s about 1,4cm x 0.8cm and very heavy!!
- east medal: IMO very nice and early one with matt paint, looks like the wartime paint
- campaign medal: can´t say much about that one but nice detailled. Seems ho have a bad
press on the reverse.
- a pic of him, on his arms his son who is now more than 70 years old
