    Lowly Kvk's

Here are some humble, but collectible awards IMO.

I wouldn't normally collect a non-combat related award, but recently a cracking FJ mini-stickpin (which because of a very good friend I was able to add to my collection) and in with the combat awards was a Kvk2 without swords. I found a seller with both Kvk2's with and without swords, so I grabbed them.

I hope to share the stickpin within a few days. For now, I hope you enjoy these humble 57er's...

Hey Mike!! They may only be KVK2's, but they are some of the nicest i've seen, real quality to finish to them!!
I've got a few "mit Schwerte" on medalbars, which i thought were pretty good, but they are'nt as nice as these little beauties!!
The KVK without swords is the scarcer of the two, and nice early examples such as this are hard to find!!
In fact compared with the wartime numbers awarded, with swords 6 million+ and without approx 1.5 million, early 57ers are soooo much rarer!!!
          Great pieces Mike!!!!!!!

PS forgot to ask about the finish on these KVK's Mike, the non-com version looks to have a "laquer" finish like some wartime pieces,(and maybe the swords version too?) is that right??

Thanks Nigel! I'm happy with them.

There are some die flaws on the Kvk2 w/swords that makes me think it's a little later, but honestly, I'm not sure. It seems that most examples I've seen have these flaws to some extent. The one with swords must have been openly displayed as the front has dirt and patina on the front which is unlike the backside. Kinda cool as I know this seller (whom I've gotten several early pieces from) lives in Austria and gets most of her stuff directly from vets, so this one was likely some veterans pride and joy!

I certainly agree that the Kvk2 wthout swords is more rare. It will look great along side a very special FJ stickpin coming from a one of a kind friend in the UK!

I agree with you guys ... its not only " just a KvK " ... these awards are beauties in their own right.

Some soldier was awarded this and hence should deserve the same respect as one who got an EK or higher .

I really like these, love the bronze color on them .

You see - from my side - its not all about DKiG & RK's .

                Cheers Nigel,
Both pieces have a laquered finish IMO. It's more easily seen on the Kvk2 without swords as it has little patina to hide it. The Kvk2 w/swords has dirt and patina build up that hides it to a large extent. You can see it faintly, but more clearly on the backside.
