    DKiG From David's Sale

    Posting my first 57 DKiG.

I have been looking for an early type for a while and not really sure what to look for, but recently, thanks to David M, I managed to pick up this early S&L DKiG. When I saw David was going to sell off part of his collection I thought this wasn't an opportunity to miss.

    Many thanks, Gareth

            Hello Gareth,

First, Welcome to the 57er club! WARNING! They are extremely addicitive!!!

Second, that is a very nice S&L DKiG! Not the earliest, but early nonetheless. I like them when the wreath is applied concentrically as yours is. Often on 57ers, the wreath is off center. Yours is well made. I can't speak to the case, although I think that type did come with much later made DK's, but I will allow others to give you a definitive assessment of it.

Welcome and congrats on a NICE DKiG!!!

Hi Gareth, very nice DKiG, you know you are on safe ground when buying from David, as he only buys nice, quality pieces!!!
The plastic cases were introduced around 1970 i think, the first ones seem to have a foam lid liner, coupled with a proper tray, the later ones had foam in both the tray and the lid liner, but either way, this is a nice, authentic S & L case!!
The DKiG probably did'nt start life in this case,as its quite a bit earlier than 1970, but they still make a great set, i always think awards like the DK look much nicer when cased!!
              Congrats on a great buy!!!

                THAT is a wonderful set
The DK is IMO early made, around 1962-1965 and very well done. It has the early wonderful black painting which gives this wonderful contrast to the golden wreath.
Plastic case is surely added later.

A piece i would be proud to have in my collection. Congrats

You did well there for a 1st DKiG buy ... not the earliest style, but these are, IMO, still highly collectible !!!
