    Unknown DKIG

    Hello,

I bought this cross a few days ago as a reproduction. When i first saw it i thought it was a Souval post war piece (Souval copy of the WW2 issue). But i don't seem to recall that souval had rivets on his crosses, and the enamel on his cross where in much higher quality than this one is.

So i'm thinking, did someone ruin a early 57 S&L cross to make it look like the war type?

        Hi Jon-Olav!!
The hardware on this DKiG is 1960's S & L, I have seen postwar S & L DK's with swastika, but they have all had the earlier coke bottle style pin!!
The swastika on this one looks poorly formed, and appears to be soldered on???
So, i think you are right, this looks like it started life as a nice, and quite early, 57er DKiG, and someone has removed the EK, and replaced it with swaz!!

          Hi Niegel!
Thank you very much, mu thought's exactly! I do have a S&L DKIG with swaz and the wide pin, and the quality is way higher. Sad that someone ruined this cross, do you think it would be possible to "restore" it?

I actually think it's glued on, at least i hope so! Not that it's worth much, but it would be great to get it back to it's glory, cause this swaz is ugly!

This is never ever a S&L. Look at the wreath, copied Deschler/Godet wreath but very poor quality.
IMO one of these modern ebay 57ers that has become a swaztika
You can find these ones in 57er version with a broad pin too and mostly marked with 1 - 21 - 65 (ebay seller "antikmarktmünsterland") and so on...... Totally crap .

Thanks for that Rudiger, you know more than me on DK's!!
So, do you think it started out as a fake 57er and then someone added the awful swastika, or has it always been just a Third Reich copy??

IMO it started as a 57er, with these you can make more money than with a TR fake.
But it´s easy to switch between TR to 57er fake while assembling the pieces

                  What an ugly swass

Unless the general opinion has changed, this cross doesn't have the characteristics what I look for in an "early" made DK.
BTW: For me "early" means that it was made in the early sixties (1960-1963).

I'm blanc when it comes to 57 awards, but are you sure?

Compare it to the photo in post number 4

The hardware may look as S&L but if you compate the wreath from your DK with the wreath from Mathijs DK....not similar.

Here´s a Deschler DK, look at the wreath....

We can´t judge 57ers always at the hardware/setup

                        I don't collect 57 awards so i guess i'm thinking different

Thank you again to all for great help!!
