57 para - true or false part 2

    Dear All,

I'd like to know if you think this is a genuine badge or not, here are the links:

    Thanks,
    Alf

I fear not ... the backside of the wreath has the "grooved" look, to be identified with certain modern pieces.
I also dont like the solder residues and burn marks on the piece. I assume it also has the open block hinge & the modern wire catch.
IMO the eagle has been artificially aged as well. Any side shot available on this one ?

    All in all .... .

Edit .. adding a modern copy of RO/AG badge for comparison.

I dont like it either, nasty glittery finish to both eagle and wreath, hardware all looks to be later style!
At best its a modern piece!!!
      I'd pass too

Be patient and wait for a nice FJ badge to come along Alf. Mathijs and Nigel have given a good evaluation. This one is not worth having in your collection.

Sorry to say, Carsten, but yours is no more no less collectable as the one above .

Seeing the hardware on the back, also modern made piece ....

The finish is better on your piece Carsten, but as Mathijs says the open hingeblock, chunky pin, and thick catch all add up to it being a more recently made badge!
Again, theres nothing wrong with it, but these later pieces are'nt of the same quality, or desirability as the early made ones (late 50's to mid 60's)
I dont own any of these badges, but i'm sure some of the other guys can show you a nice early example!!

Alf and Carsten, here are two examples of the type of badge you want to look for...

                            CLICK1!

                            CLICK2!

Note the hardware (pin size and shape, hingleblock) rivets, finish, etc. These are early and collectible pieces. Hollow rivet badges, as long as the other attributes are as seen on these two examples would be acceptable.

John, sorry to report that £60.00 for a modern badge is a very poor deal. I hope you can get your money back or at least a partial refund.
