From RAD to the Front to the Bundeswehr in 5 '57 medals

    Hello

Finally this nice little group arrived (I hate waiting for purchased medals).

It is a small group of a RAD man who did a lot of fighting on the Eastern Front. It seems he didn’t get wounded at all. Afterwards I think he served in the Bundeswehr because the ribbonbar is well worn. I love the wear pattern on the ISA and NKS.

As you can maybe see imo the ribbons used are wartime. I can clearly see on both sides ( and ), if you know what I mean. The reverse is really nicely closed as they did with wartime pieces. Unfortunately I can’t open the pin but for me that is no problem.

    Best regards

    Stijn

Here's another medal from this soldier. It's an early S&L silver ISA with round pin.
I can't open the needle either because the catch is a bit bend.

Here's the bronze NKS. It's an early one with a closed block hinge but with later pin.

To finish i have here the highlight of the group.
It is an early 3 piece medalbar. They are all in great condition.
IMO they used again wartime leftover ribbons because of the curves on both sides.
The EK II looks Deumer because it has shiny sides but i'll leave this to the EK experts to determine.
The RAD medal is really heavy. A feast for the eyes.

        Enjoy!

Here's the reverse that is as nicely finished as the ribbon bar.

Thanks for your replies, guys. Much appreciated.

Interesting to see the EK II is S&L, thank you Nigel.

Unfortunately this group is not attribueted. A pity but beautiful nevertheless.
This weekend i'll make some scans from the reverse of the medalbar.

In the meantime a question, did you guys already the same type of catch of the ribbonbar on any kind of medal? If so, please post pics.

                    Best regards

Hi Stijn!! The EK2 looks to be an early one, is there any frosting on the beading? i can't tell from the photo, and can you see the ribbon ring, i was wondering if it was MM'd?? No worries if you can't, dont stretch the ribbon if its pulled tight!!!! -Nigel

                        Hello Nigel

Here's a close up pic. There is no frosting on the beading. I can detect some flaws on the beading: for exemple: bottom beading of 9 o'clock arm. There are some curves stamped to low (hope you understand what i mean). I'll try to make some close ups this weekend.

I tried looking if it was marked but it is so thightly made i can't see the ring. I find it unbelievable how good this bar is made. I must have taken quiet some time to handcraft this.

                        Best regards
