New to 57s - need some advice

    Hi all,

im looking to purchase some 57 combat awards. Where can i purchase these 57 awards from? Are there any specialist dealers? or any particular members who are active sellers on the e-stand?

You may wish to PM me.

Also, if you've any available pieces, please let me know.

    Many thanks,
    Mil

Hello Mil and welcome to the 57 section of the WAF!

We tend to be a bit tight lipped about dealers as there are so many fewer collectible New Form pieces to go around than there are TR pieces. There are tons of 57er's out there, just relatively few that are worth collecting and that's one of the things we love most about this aspect of German militaria.

No one in this section is an "active" seller although our good friend Mathijs does have some nice pieces currently listed here - CLICK ME!!!

Again, welcome and stop by often!

Many thanks for your kind words guys.

I just feel that some post-war made medals do not have the 'feel' that their war time pieces and i cant tell if its because of them being poorly made, or that they're fake pieces. ive held some of these and they havea too clean look to them and feel very light. not the same that i would have felt for a wartime issued piece. After all a 57 made item should have been nearly 50 years old now. they dont feel that way.

Perhaps I should have been more clear.
Im looking for Heer and Luftwaffe '57 combat awards
        (eg; GAB, IAB, PB, etc)

Please PM me if you've some available for sale - thank you!

Hi Mil, if you can find the very early pieces, made in the late 50's or early 60's the quality and feel is very similar to wartime made!! But as time went by the quality goes down, and the later pieces are poor when compared to early 57ers and wartime produced!!
The GAB just posted by Thomas is a nice early one, perhaps you can drop him a PM!! -Nigel

            Hi Mil,

I am collecting wartime crosses and "early" wartime badges for quite a while.
But it is also fun to collect the new form items.
And the VERY early items are often very close to the quality of their wartime counterparts.
And the German herstellers like S&L, Deumer and Assmann made badges that are IMO better than some makers and often much better in quality than the ones made late in war.

Most Dealers have 57's for sale, but the VERY early items are hard to find and collectable.
The e-stand is also a good source to find some nice early items.
Today I bought the ehrenblat that was for sale on the e-stand:

So I hope to see you posting soon when you found something that you like.

You need a phone with internet and a hotline to the Dealers and e-stand
But I noticed that I didn't have a golden WB also, so I also bought that one.
I do hope that John is not going to sell his complete collection.

                  NEVER!

I've decided that I want to concentrate exclusively on Iron Cross and Iron Cross-related items, so my 57er EKs are staying in the collection, as is my 10-place 57er ribbon bar. Of course, I'm keeping my WWI and WWII EK collection as well, but I've been selling a few of them off to acquire nicer pieces, so my EK total has gone from 23 down to 16 pieces (I had several duplicates that I got rid of recently).

You'll also still see me weighing in on posts here in the 1957 section, and I will post the occasional 1957 EK as I acquire them.

                  John

Mathijs, yeah, I would've swiped up that honor roll clasp, too!

Mil, as Luud commented, the early ones come close to their WW2 brothers, but in the case of the ABP's, the early 57's are far superior to the WW2 versions. Check out the badge in post #13 here as an example -

There's no WW2 ABP I've seen that can stand up to that one!

It seems I was just in time with that honor roll!

John: very nice to see that you are not leaving us and we look forward to see your new items.

I agree that Georges golden APB is indeed much nicer than any wartime APB that I have ever seen.

I do think that you held some modern 57's.
Here is for example an Observer that looks and feels (except the missing swass) almost the same as a wartime observer.
