    1957 EK 2 for review

    Hello gentlemen,

I'm new with 1957 awards but I have a growing interest in them.
That's why I purchased these iron crosses.
Can anybody comment on these? (early/late, original/fake, manufacturer)

    Kind regards,
    Rik

Hi Rik, looks like you've got a nice pair of early parade mounted EK2's!
I think they are both by S & L certainly the one on the right is, a few close ups would be good if you can!!
From what i see, good quality finish and brass jump rings these are late 50's or early 60's!!
Is it possible to have a look to see if the ribbon rings are marked? -Nigel

That's good to hear Nigel, thanks.
I'll have a look at the rings when I get home. I tried yesterday but it seems quite difficult to get to the ring.

The lot also included some mini's:

Hi Rik, if you can't see the ribbon rings, no worries, dont damage the ribbons trying to force things, sometimes they are a very tight fit!! If they had a "4" on the ring for S & L, we could date them to 50's, but they are nice early pieces either way!!
The mini's and stickpins look good to me, but they're not really my field, maybe one of the other guys will help you out with those!! -Nigel

Hi Rik, could you check if the mini's have a "o" marking on the back ? That would made them early S&L made ....

            Hi Rik, nice 57's.
But based on these pictures I disagree with the period that they have been made.

They are all not my collecting area and I never studied the postwar ek's and mini's, so don't take my word on it.

But compared to the postwar ek's that I have seen and when I look at the finish, misallignment of the frames, the crispyness, the soldering and the way it has been frosted (or lack of it), I just can't believe that these have been made in the first 5-10 years.

I will also show you what I would expect to see on mini's from the first years.
They are very small, but like their wartime brothers of very high quality.
