      All good points guys!!
George, yeah, unusual wear to the reverse, lots of fine lines in all directions...strange
Its vaulted, but not as much as a factory done piece, just enough to be noticeable!
Datewise, not the very earliest i dont think, as Trevor says, i've not seen the domed hingepin on 50's crosses, its also not quite as thick and heavy as the earlier crosses,so i'd date this around mid 60's!!icon_cheers.gif -Nigel

Interesting. Any more shots of this one, Rüdiger? I wonder if it has the "bleeding 3" core?
        Best regards,

No, there are no more shots of it I only downloaded it because of the hardware to compare.
I,m going to look at a very early EK I from the 50s and thought this could be the right hardware...

            Rudiger,

I think both of the crosses you post for reference are from the 50's based on the hardware. If I'm wrong hopefully Peter or Nigel will correct me.

But the hardware is the same as Nigel´s cross has - except the domed hingepin.
The core is still the same - but Nigel´s should be a 60s piece ??? I don´t understand that, where are the differences ? ? ?
Teach me - i want to learn
I can date RK´s and other awards, but ek´s are getting more and more confusing for me

Hi Rudiger, there are a lot of different hardware setups for the S & L EK1's, and it does get confusing because they can look very similar! I'll post a few pics comparing the wellworn 60's cross with an earlier 50's EK i got from Mathijs! Notice the slight difference in the pins, similar but not quite the same...medals 448.jpg
                50's left, 60's right!!

The earlier 50's crosses are usually heavier and thicker than the later 60's onesmedals 450.jpg Compare the thicker frame of the 50's cross on the left to the thinner and lighter 60's EK on the right!!

Thanks a lot Nigel, now it´s clear for me
The difference in the pin is really very slight....
