    S&l ek1

    Hey guys.

Slow on the entire forum lately. Thought I'd show this UM S&L I got a while back when I saw Nigel's and got jealous .

These photos also show the new little medal stands that everyone else seems to have but that I just got.

By the way, I am trying to quit and it's really hard. I'm 37 and am having serious health consequences that are no joke. If anyone here smokes, please give it up before a doctor tells you you have to.

Here's Max and me today, when I smoked 3 cigarettes (normal: 20). See the Nicotrol inhaler in my hand?

    Best regards,
    Streptile

Oh, you don´t know how i wish to stop smoking I´m to weak to stop, my head says "come on, only one cigarette", and so i smoke the next one, about 12-15 per day. It´s very hard to stop, two of my brothers stopped that from one day to another Maybe i´m not really ready to stop but i should do that before my doctor says "STOP". I´m getting 44 in december and it´s time....
I wish you luck for that and that your health is getting better the next time. I´m with you in my minds

Nice crosses guys!! I also like this style of painted core, a nice matt finish, with a slightly textured look to it!!
Trevor, yours looks mint, with a nice shiny frame well finished on the edges too, filed to give a smooth result!
I like the look of yours too Rudiger, do you think this one has been worn by a vet?
        2 great examples!! -Nigel

This is a quote from another thread. But was this the EK1 she inspected?

If so, I am also impressed :laugh

Trev, sorry to hear that, man. Hope you're health will improve!

Here's a pic of my boy, Jasper. Sadly, he passed away a couple years back. RIP brother!

Yeah, that's the one! Actually she always says, "Godet?" because she knows it's my favorite maker. Then I say, "I don't think they made 57s," and S&L is the second choice.

Great Jack Russel, Rüdiger. I love those dogs... but, oh, they have a lot of energy! Max is a rare breed: North American Dingo: wild dogs that were first domesticated as hunters by Native American Indians. He's the smartest dog ever... but I would say that, wouldn't I?

About smoking: I never thought to quit before now. But it would have been nice if I had quit a year ago, since I am now facing some very serious consequences that I could have avoided.
                  Best regards,
                  Streptile

                    Nice crosses and pets gents!

Trevor, I'm so very sorry to hear of your health concerns. You've become a good friend and this is painful to hear! Let it serve as a warning for those who continue to smoke! Stop now! I quit cigarettes in my early twenties after about 7 years of smoking. Severe Emphasema was one of the contributing factors in my fathers premature death.

On to happier things. Here's a shot of my trained attack cat "Kiko" taken as he gaurded last years Christmas presents. Noticed the extended claws as I got a bit to close to his new rubber mouse! He's a real tough-guy!

Great pets! It's interesting how many of us have pets. Jasper is a handsome Shepherd, and Kiko's claws are no joke, man.

Thanks for the nice words, everyone, about my health. I didn't mean to turn the thread morbid , and I wasn't fishing for sympathy. I'll keep you guys updated when I get results back (testing for the ol' you-know-what). I have been very hard on my body throughout the years, and I'm concerned that it's time to pay the piper. We shall see. The last thing I would really like to say on the subject is an echo of Mike: serious smoking-related illness can happen very, very suddenly (which I didn't know), but can also be avoided quite reliably by quitting while you still have your health. If you smokers still have your health, plan to keep it, and try to quit.

Now, for my own sake, back to militaria!
                      Best regards,

Nigel, I really appreciate it. I hope so, too, and will let you guys know. Honestly, all your support in this thread has been good for me -- more helpful and affecting than I would have imagined, and I thank you all.

To get us back on to EKs here.

This is Nigel's EK that he posted recently. I had thought I was getting its twin, but now I see some substantial differences. His hinge-block is solid, whereas mine is faux-solid (open with a length of pin inserted into the open portion). This is hard to see on my photo, but it's identical to Rüdiger's. Also, Nigel's has a capped hinge-pin, different paint, and possibly a different core. What do you guys think? Here's his:

For all the differences, though, I believe the pin is the same. Do you agree?

                          Best regards,
                          Streptile

You've accurately pointed out the differences and the most typical S&L pin Trev. You've got a keen eye.

Believe me when I tell you that Kiko's claws are the real deal!

I hope now one took my comments on smoking as preaching. I'd simply like to see all my collecting peers live good, long, healthy lives.

                              Hey friends,

I wanted to bump this thread up to share the good news that I am basically healthy and in good shape. My last follow-up appointment is in a week's time, but yesterday was the most important one. I've had some medication prescribed and some tests done, and my diagnosis is not so dire as originally suspected. Lymphoma was the major concern; it seems, however, that my lump was an acute swelling of the tracheal tissue, and not a cancerous growth. This swelling can be managed fairly easily with medication and other lifestyle (diet, smoking) modifications, and I am taking all advice. Smoking was a contributing factor, and my efforts to quit continue. A big thank you to those who offered words of support in the thread and via PM.

                              My warmest regards,
                              Best regards,
                              Streptile
