    Nice Little FJ Grouping

Here's a nice and early FJ grouping I picked up recently.

The bar, stickpin and S&L badge are early with honest aging. Note the wider and I believe earlier format of the bar. Note also the bronze tone to the eagle.

As always, your thoughts and some discussion are welcomed...

Mike, these are very far from my field of interest and growing expertise, but I'll just say that they are very beautiful!

I especially like the stickpin, which has detail in the EKs that I don't see too much, and seems to be struck from different dies than the most common 57er stickpins. I like the way it's assembled, too, with a (presumably adjustable-length) bar across the back onto which the jeweler can affix any small miniatures that are appropriate. This, too, is not what I'm used to seeing, and is very nice. Also interesting to note is that there are obviously three choices for the EKs: EK2, EK2 and EK1 (shown), and -- I'd guess -- EK2, EK1, and RK (and then into the higher grades), and that the EK2 and EK1 are not affixed separately. Is this standard?

Overall a lovely set. Is it attributed? Or attributable?

Thanks for the kind words and keen observations Trev.

Unfortunately they are not attributed. That would make the set MUCH more special.

The stickpin is wartime style in setup with the bar accross the backsides of the awards and the EKI/EKII combo is unique to my experience and not "standard." All others I have seen are seperate pieces soldered together as you mentioned.

You are correct the detail of the EK's is also unusual and the quality of each of the mini's is just superb.

Don't know if you noticed the detail of the mini's or aging to the backside of the bar. It's nice as well. I have been told both bar and stickpin base materials maybe from wartime leftovers. Not the mini New Form awards obviously.

The set also came with some mini (16mm) FJ stickpin's and the VDK stickpins as well. The VDK is a German social network that apprently helped vets stay in contact with social events and exists to aid Germans in social networking to this day. One of these VDK pins is maker marked "BH Mayer Pforzheim" and another is apparently for a 40th reunion.

I like it . As you mentioned, the hardware on the ribbon bar is leftover war stock. The para badge is outstanding quality.
The combo EK1/EK2 is really interesting. As you, I've only seen them soldered together, but not integrated.
And maybe I'm being paranoid or ignorant, but that BWB looks like a Legion Condor to me .

                      Hello

A great set Mike, and nice and early too

The EK1/EK2 setup here is not as common as the standard 'shoulder to shoulder' style, but never the less can be seen on a quite a few stickpins. I don't know, but I'd venture to suggest that the ones assembled as per yours here and the ones laid out 'shoulder to shoulder' are from two different makers.

                      Regards
                      David

Haha! I know you're not ignorant Mathijs! If you're paranoid, put that "controlled substance" away and the feeling that someone is watching you will go away in time.

You are referring to the BWB on the stickpin. It does have that appearance to it but that WB is on the verboten list for New Form awards.

Bumping this old one to ask Matthias and Pierce if they have an idea who the maker is of the stickpin seen here? I've seen a few with the integrated EK's and bar across the back, but I don't know who the maker is. Any idea?

Indeed a very nice stickpin Mike.

These double EK were used for stickpins, which miniatures were soldered on a
back stripe. I would date them mostly very early.

It is very difficult to name a manufacturer or assembler.
I think the most miniatures were made by S&L.
But imo it is more difficult to mention a assember??

Some time ago, I could bought a enmaled doubble EK, they are imo much rarer.

Very nice set there Mike. As Matthias said it is very dificult to tell. I have only encountered S&L myself.
