Interesting about the die flaw on S&L DK's. I never noticed before.

Also interesting opinion about the signature being added. The seller was apparently not aware of it as he did not try to exploit it for extra money out of the deal. That makes me think it has a better chance of being an original signature.

It is IMO only visible on the later versions of the early S&L's.

And I forgot to mention do like the effect a lot where the black paint has been take of the wreath.
In wartime it happend a lot to make the DK more attractive.
But it is VERY impressive to see it on a 57 issued DK.

I've always liked the dramatic look it gave to a DK when the starburst had paint removed from the high points.

I like it but not so much that I will be taking sand paper to my early Godet!!!

Indeed a good learning experience ... I checked my other early DKiG and this one does not have the flaw. However, this is a good way of narrowing down the production time frame of these S&L's .

Thanks for all the nice comments ... I'm glad I was able to snap this one up. I'll check with the vendor about the name. He never mentioned anything to me about any writings inside. Only info was a few pictures and description " DKiG + Etui + stickpin " ... shall keep you posted.

Little update ... vendor was unaware of any writings inside the case. He himself bought it at a flea market in Ulm, so impossible to trace it back .

                  Hello

A beautiful and early S&L DKiG The really early, quality new form DKs are, (well I think so anyway), possibly the best looking of all of the new form pieces - and I'd say the same holds true for the WW2 versions as well.

As for the writing inside the case, I wouldn't place to much on that. It could have been a veteran, a collector discreetly marking their items, a collector or dealer trying to 'enhance' the piece or even simply the person who made the case.

                  A great find Mathijs

                  Regards
                  David

Seems indeed the writings on the inlay were added at a certain stage to boost the asking price ... I find no reference for any M. Latz to be awarded the DKiG. But did get it for a very good price, so makes no difference for me ( but would have been nice, of course ).
