The hardest part of buying a great looking piece, is the waiting between payment & delivery . Well ... I waited a week for this one, and it was worth the wait . Yet another nice & early S&L DKiG made its way to my home .

Very nice set, mathijs
What there stands is : DK Gold
And the name could also be M. Latz
Here´s a site with all German cross awards winners http://www.ww2awards.com/award/614/L
There are two "Latz" and a few "Lutz", but no surname with an "M"
an here´s a site where you can "translate" the "Sütterlinschrift"

hi Mathys, great set!! Very nice DKiG, with early hardware, and i just love the mini! great detail and quality on that too!! And then the case with , hopefully, the vets name, i hope you can find out who it belonged to, that would make it even more special!! Great catchbeerchug.gif -Nigelsigpic 57ers...."The Devil Is In The Detail"

Hey Mathijs,
Another NICE DKiG for your collection! We will need to see an updated group shot sometime soon!
Interesting about the "damage" to the wreath. It looks like perhaps there was material in die that made this indentation as the "dent" was there prior to finish being applied. Now it has it's own unique "fingerprint."
To have what we can presume to be the vets handwriting in the case is very exciting! It certainly looks like the handwriting of a senior citizen. The early pieces that were vet issued and handled makes them SO MUCH MORE SPECIAL!!!
Could the first initial be a "W" perhaps rather than an "M"?

Very Nice DK
That flaw you mention is the first thing I look at if I see a S&L DK.
It the worst developed wich I have seen and If my memory serves me well, I think this is your earliest DK.
I will post my worst developed "flaw" on a S&L wich came in a halbetui.
IMO that the name has been added to try to give it some provenance. It sadly happens A LOT.
One of the reasons I think this, is that the name has been added after the case has been taken apart, wich I never encountered on cases that were never in collectors hands.Attached Files
