I forgot about that Luud. I think i know what has happend here but i do not know right now how to explain it. I still think it is a Steinhauer.

Haha! This is exactly why I requested more discussion!

I've been very curious to know who the maker of my LW CCC in Silver is and now I do thanks to Peter!!!

You know the eagle is soldered onto it too and not riveted and also has fine workmanship!

I'll post a pic when I get home from work! Oops! Now you know I look at the WAF while I'm supposed to be working!

Thanks, I now think that I also know what happend after comparing the rest (arrow, finish, die characteristics etc.) and I have to agree with you that it is most likely a S&L also.
I have seen this hardware on S&L's also, but the same hardware is also found on other herstellers, so I don't consider that as very important.
I didn't get the connection with S&L at fist, but don't forget that I still have MUCH less experience with these 57's. I know I have still a lot to learn.

But I will just wait for the revelations in your book!

I though that this would be the reason...you better start working again!
The clasp is VERY similar made.

It is also interesting to see that the Pilot badge that came with it is IMO also an early S&L.

                Beautiful!!!

Definately a Steinhauer made piece. A very tough bird to find! Well done my friend,

                  A very nice PB Luud!

Very interesting to see that your wreath has sharper details than mine and yet my eagle has sharper details than yours.

Gotta love this hobby! With 57er's it seems that the norm is that there is no norm!

If only someone was writing a book that would help sort all this out!

Here are a couple of shots comparing the oak sprays on our clasps.

There are obcious similarities and obvious differences, but no doubt the same die at different times in it's life cycle...

                        Just a quick OT question:

Of the two pins visible below, Luud's (swollen) and Mike's (thin), which is thought to be earlier? And both are known to be S&L, correct?

                        Thank you.

                        Now back to the thread...
                        Best regards,

                          Vince and Peter,

I am interested to know the specific characteristics that you see in the clasp by which you assign S&L and maker.

                          Vince,

If referring to the PB, I'd like to hear your specific thoughts on what makes that piece an S&L as well.

                          Thanks!

I missed your question somehow Trev.

                            Thin round pin is earlier.

I believe S&L, just waiting for some input.

                              Thanks Mike.
                              Bumping this one up.
Also to ask: Has anyone ever seen this thin, round pin on an EK? I never have, but I'm wondering.

                                Hey Trevor,

You should not see a pin this small on an EKI. There are the "coke-bottle" or wartime types on the earlier ones and then a variety of shapes and thicknesses that can be seen throughout our good friend Nigels posts.

This is not to say that only coke-bottle types are early! There are variations that pictures can do a better job explaining than I can!

Check Nigels many fine examples for good cross section of hardware types.
