There was at least one that I know of, Ernst Junger. Without going over too much old ground, a 57 er can only be one of the new form Third Reich awards that were allowed to be made. sold and purchased after this period.

Since the PLM was not a Third Reich award, it cannot be a 57er.

It looks like a S&L piece that is made early according to the 57 standards.

But I think these "'replacement awards" or "postwar copies" need a discussion.

I am far from an expert on postwar items, but I will give my thoughts anyway:

I have seen many copies from S&L with that are (partly) made from the same dies as the 57 items except with an eagle attached without the swass.
These postwar copies with swass are IMO not collectable, the 57 items (made at the same time?) are very collectable if early and worn.

I have seen many PRE TR items with the same hardware as the 57's and postwar copies, like the full range WW1 era items.
If you make a statistical calculation, it looks like there are many more WW1 badges/medals made in the 57 era that there were soldiers serving the BDR.

We know that these are not listed as official 57 issued items.
But are they made as replacements or for the collectors market?

I personnally am of the opinion that almost all of these are made for the collectors market and not bought as a replacement.

To me ONLY the "early" non 57 issued pieces that have provenance or are attached to a 57 issued piece are collectable.
Like it these non 57 items are attached on ribbon bars, medal bars and mini chains. Also like the oaks that come with an RK are IMO collectable.

So this PLM is IMO not as collective as an original and I consider it as a postwar copy for collectors. But it is more collective as the modern copies.
And if I would buy a gap filler for a real PLM (I am one of those few collectors that never did and never will buy gapfillers), this would be the one.

I am very new to this collecting area and I did adjust my thought a few times before, so I like to here some more thoughts.

I'm pretty much in agreement with Luud on this one, at least for me personally when it comes to collecting these items.

Pour le merite

Hi,
i have a post war pour le merite. Made in the 1950" to early 1960"s. Real silver. The cross is fire gilded. Ht. 53.90. Width 54.33mm. Wt. 30.37gm with oak leaves. Mine is hallmarked 800 on the right side. The last pour le merite was made in 1968.
Mine has a very small chip. Hard to see.
The weight is with the oakleaves.
Soory i have no pictures to show. Except in my book on the post war german medals.

I wouldn't technically call this gem a "57" as it's not a not form (ie no swaz). On the other hand, it's a great looker, a good filler, and fits in nicely with other post-war S&L pieces, IMO.
