    Weird how 1957 crosses could be bought by just anyone. Someone must have put an end to that, I'm sure. Or is it still going on? Profitable business; let's purchase a pile of crosses, stack 'em away for 15 years and start cashing in If life only were that simple

      No, from the very start in 1957 anyone, veteran, collector, dealer etc could buy any of the new form items, and still can today. To wear the item(s) my understanding is that you had show entitlement to the WW2 original, but whether that only applied to those serving in the then newly formed West German forces I'm not certain.
