      Hi Vince,

The earliest KvK's will be frosted like this example owned by David - http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...highlight=kvk1 and will be burnished on the rims and numerals. The piece you post is not frosted, but plated, so, IMO it is a mid or later piece.

Burnishing does not always photograph well, so it's difficult to tell if the one you post is burnished or not. I would ask the seller for better photos to determine if it is or is not burnished. It looks like it might be, but it could also just be the shiny/glttery finish found on late produced pieces.

The asking price you mentioned in the PM, IMO is too high with it not being frosted. Granted it is a more rare award, but $100 to $150 LESS is reasonable without frosting but WITH burnishing. Without frosting and without burnishing, let it go. It's a collectors market piece that is not worth having.

          Hello

For comparision, have a look at this thread:

          http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...d.php?t=302815

Mine, as featured in the above thread, has the burnished highlights to the edges, numerals, sword hilts and is silver plated (silver plating being something totally different to frosting) rather the very rare and very early '800' silver marked/made ones. If there was ever any frosting on mine it's long since gone through wear and, or cleaning (not by me !!). I consider mine to probably be a good quality mid produced piece, possibly from the early part of the mid production. As Mike has said, the burnished parts don't always show up well in photos, and mine looks considerably better 'in the hand' than it does in the photos.

Better, closer in photos of yours are needed, but I think, from what can be seen in the photos, that this one may be a decent mid produced one.

          Regards
          David
