      Hi Alex!
Very nice star, a particularly early example, as indeed I believe Luud's were.
Is this the one that sold on E-bay a year or so ago for BIG money???
They are postwar made versions of the 34-37 Red Cross awards, and there was also the version of the 37-39 DRK medal, which did have a swastika, so maybe that one could be thought of as a 57 version?
If you say there was no need for a breast star, then that one must be thought of as a piece for collectors, despite some versions being very early, I didn't know that no-one in the 50's/60's would be needing a replacement star, I just considered it as being made as a replacement piece alongside all the other DRK decorations. So it is surprising that S&L made such an expensive and complicated multi-part construction piece for no other reason than the collectors market????

Useful graphic, showing the 34-37 range, on which Luud's and Alex's are based...

And the 37-39 range, which saw the existing pieces gain the swastika, and the introduction of the DRK medal, which re-appeared minus swastika in 57 form....
