Hi Brien,

That's an interesting 5 (6?) place bar. It was not unusual I believe for vets to turn the offending swas towards the backing so as to allow them to wear their awards yet conform to new laws/regulations.

Can you show us the reverse of the medals? In particular the Italo-Afrika medal.

I am not aware that a 57 version of the Italo-Afrika was ever made. It was not a Wehrmacht award. Also, was not it's wearing disallowed even during the WWII period? There are a few 57 bars posted on WA that show the I-A medal on parade mounts and each is a war time version mounted with the swas to the rear.

I note the I-A is suspended on what appears to be a small cloth loop. Maybe it was mounted with the swas facing inwards but has been turned. Have you been able to check if the loop is twisted under the ribbons?

There's a thread on the afrika medal on the 57 forum,Just wonder why one medal is turned around and the not.......home made bar maybe??

Here's a shot of the reverse side o the medals. The loops are sewn on. The italo-afrika WAS turned around in th first photo. Your opinions are greatly appreciated. Not only cannot I not see, I can't count either. Thanks for the correction
